Question Line Level Convertor

This is for you guys who added amps to the stock head unit. Where did you hook the line level convertor in? Is there a convienant spot where all the speaker wires can be accessed?

, hey welcome to the "L" club. I see you live in Phx, there a quite a few "local" boys here (i live in cavecreek-phx) Do you ever go to the track??? shoot me an e-mail so i can include you on local events & gatherings (diners, etc...) quikbolt@uswest.net If you have any other questions include them in youe e-mail.

in answer to your question, i have an aftermarket amps, but I installed a new deck. I dont know of anyone that is using line-level converters. I know from past experience that they dont work very well. But, give it a shot & let us know how it goes.

AZRockcrawler...

I think John893 is one of your go-to guys on this one. I'll let him know you need the info next time I talk to him (tomorrow sometime most likely) if he doesn't read your post himself in the meantime. later...

Thumbs up

I'm using a converter from AudioLink. Can't remember where I got it, maybe Crutchfield. It works great, no reason at all to change the head unit. Sound is incredibly clear, even at painfully loud levels (also due in no small part to using high-quality amps & components/subs).
There is enough room for it under the radio in the dash, so I just clipped the speaker wires a few inches from the connector and ran some high-end RCA's from there to behind the seats. I think it helps to have the LLC as close to the head unit as possible because the speaker wires are unshielded.

System:
Stock Head Unit
AudioLink Line Converter
Kenwood Parametric Equalizer
2 Rockford 150x2 Amps
Infinity Kappa Perfect Components (6.5"&1")
2 Infinity Kappa Perfect 10" subs

Great. Thanks. I have heard from a lot of people if you use anything but an Audiolink it won't sound good.

AZ,
Depending on the amp, you may not need an LOC.
I am using a Kicker amp which has high-level inputs. There are many others like MTX and PPI, which also have high-ins.
I have heard that cheap LOC's may be more of a problem.....Look at Monster Cable and Soundgate for quality LOC's.

I am running the input to an Audio Control EQX which will act as my EQ/Crossover/Preamp, from there the signal goes to a pair of PPI amps, an old 2075 and a modded 2030, actually a 2060 now Looking around I am amazed at how cheap amplifiers are getting. Saw a 3 channel Blaugpunkt (SP?) that had 80x2 and 200X1 selling for $100 at Fri's the other day. Probably a refurb, but still........

AZ,

I was under the impression that the Audio Control unit had built in LOC's ?
Are you looking at replacing the older PPI'S ? If so, I would look out their new pcx line.
You can check out many brands as well ( reasonable prices) on the "the zeb's" website.

Nope. The EQX is RCA only, at least mine is, maybe the newer ones do. I bought mine way back in 94. I was going to sell my PPI's and get a single 4 channel amp but I figured out how I could get two of these amps in the cab. No sense in replacing them till they die.
