How to change the back rotors with smaller ones.

I know that our trucks have big rotors in the back for the parking brakes, but can't we change out the rotors and put some regular f150 small rotors on the truck. I say this becasue I don' even have the parking brake's anymore. So I could change them, right.

I'm just trying to figure out a way to put some good wide rims and tires on this truck.

What could I put on the truck!!! stock f150 rear brakes!

You mean put drum brakes on the rear? YIKES!!! I thought the reason we have larger rotors on the rear, as compared to the front, was that the complete rearend assemble is out of Fords Expedition

BABolt had a solution for smaller rear brakes... to fit 15" wheels.

RT,

IMHO, I don't think it's just for parking brakes. Or are you just kidding? Can't tell on the internet. I think the reason they're bigger is for better stopping power - afterall they're not vented like the fronts are, so they need the extra diameter so as not to overheat when towing and autocrossing, etc. If a regular F-150's parking brakes work on a regular F-150, it looks like that's what should work on our regular F-150 body. Maybe you're just kidding and I've made a complete a** of myself.

i work on f150s all day at work, but i still may be wrong, but i think that the rear brakes are the same as the regular rear disks that all 99 up f150s get. I'll measure tommorrow to be sure.
Remember that no 97 up f150 has ever had 15" wheels.

I agree completely and know where you are coming from. Smaller rotors would allow the use of 15" wheels which would give us all a greater selection of race slicks. When I broached this question to someone I was told that more than likely it would interfer with the ABS system. When I asked if the ABS system could be disconnected he said probably not because it was an intergal part of the computer. Had the same idea and still think its a good one if someone can overcome the obsticles. Hell, my 93 never stopped on anything but the fronts anyway as the drums would never stay adjusted. I just changed pads every 15K miles. Since I know how to drive and don't ride peoples butts, I could do fine with degraded rear brakes and would change in a minute if it would mean I could use 15" wheels and 28" slicks.
