Lightbulb rear springs

Iam sure this might of been talked about earlier at one ponit or another but would it help our trucks 60 foot better to soften the rear springs ?? maybe take one of the small leafs out. I know it might not be a good idea just a thought.

We were one of the first people to use the Cal-Tracs back in 99. The Cal-Tracs will help keep the rear end from wrapping and keep it straight when you loose traction. With the Cal-Tracs, 3.73 gears, M/T ET Streets (26x10.5x16), and a 75 shot of Nitrous we pull off low 1.7x and high 1.6x 60' still weighing on over 5000Lbs.

Lisa I haven't tried any MT ET's yet, but they lowered my 60" times about 1-2 tenths, and also help keeping the tires planted when it shifts into 2nd.
Also I feel they are good insurance against over wrapping the axle, and reducing the stress on the U goints.

I take the bar off when I am not at the track. It only takes a few minutes to put them on or take them off.

I haven't had any problems leaving the bars on (caltracs). Why do you take them off? I droped about the same as Don C with the caltracs. That is the same reason I bought them, insurance.

Part of the problem of the original set of Caltracs, the brackets were to narrow, and it would take alot of work to pre-load and un-load them. So after the 3rd time, I just left them loaded and never had a problem on the street. We now have the propor brackets and I am not able to adjust them easally.

But I see nothing wrong with leaveing them on and pre-loaded. We ran around for a over a year like that.

I don't have any problems when I leave them on.
I take mine off because we have some pritty bad roads around here(big dig and all) and they rattle alittle, mostly on big bumps.

Softer springs I don't know, but if you get stiffer springs like the Hotchkis ones some guys have reported a slight drop in 1/4 runs, both overall and 60' times.

Does anybody know, if we switch to Hotchkis rear springs, and then put on a set of Caltracs if that would restore any lost time that the springs would lose?
