possible oil burning issues in new ford v8's?
oh no.......not again. i just got rid of my 2001 corvette z06 for this same issue.
below is a piece from blueovalnews.com about possible casting issues in ford v8 blocks.
anybody have any thoughts?

Sources at the Michigan Truck Plant in Wayne, Michigan and St. Thomas Assembly in Ontario, Canada are both reporting post vehicle assembly problems. The problems have allegedly attributed to a reduction in vehicle output at both plants and according to a source at St. Thomas, temporary layoffs.
According to the sources, cars and trucks equipped with 4.6L and 5.4L V8 engines are burning oil. The problems were discovered once the vehicles were undergoing final testing.
It's suspected that the engine blocks were improperly cast, and in particular the number two cylinder bore.
It is unclear if the problems have impacted other assembly plants or if any vehicles were shipped to dealerships and delivered to consumers.

Hey guys don't be suprised if it does happen. I'm not sure if its a enough oil to make a smokey cloud, but think of how our trucks have the infamous piston slap as the miles go on them. I'm pretty sure mines got it now, and it seems to be getting worse.
Only way to fix it is to rip out the motor and put new pistons and rods in. might as well raise up the coimpression while we got it apart! hahahahah, thats my plan.
Don't worry I'm going to take all kinds of pictures and one of these days I'm going to go to a SVT meeting and get real pissy!

Well, my 2001 will blow one little puff of smoke on startup on very cold mornings. If the temp is say below 40 then she will give a little puff only on startup. It is just a puff and does not smoke any other time.
I am not sure if it is a real problem, it happened like 3 times and it has not happened for a while, of course the temps have been higher also.
If I start it and then immediately shut it off, and restart it does not do it. I have not looked into the throttle body to see if it is sucking it in there, but I think that might be the case for me.
At this point I am not too concerned.

LS1
At the strip Fri. pm. An owner of a LS1 Camaro, wanted to know all about my 'oil breather cap'. Said his eng. was using a qt. about every 1,500-2,000 miles--and that other LS1s were having the same problems and were trying caps, different types of valves in pcv line, etc. to try and stop/reduce oil consumption in the throttle body/intake.
The Camaros with an 'oil breather cap' were spraying oil droplets all over their eng. compartment. Mine doesn't. He wanted an explanation as to why the cap works but I couldn't remember the theory other than it (cap) relieves some/all of the excessive crankcase pressure.

Mine puffs at startup sometimes too, but all my performance cars have. It must be oil slipping through the valves.
RTKILLA,
What compression are you thinking of going with? I think the low compression is what keeps these motors together. Were like 8.5:1 now, 9.5:1 is probably pushing it for daily driver reliability. I blew the motor in my Z28 because of the 10.1 compression. Why not just throw a lot of boost to it and keep the stock compression?

I wonder if 5W-20 oil will increase this problem
I've started wondering about Ford's decison to suggest 5W-20 oil across the board for all vehicles. In 100 degree heat I wonder if that is a heavy enough oil? It may be fine for a guy driving around town in his Focus, but what about a car turning some RPM at a dragstrip.....ie a Lightning or a Cobra. I broke the engine in with 5W-20, but switched to 5W-30 Mobil One at 6000 miles. I hope that my 2001 doesn't start consuming oil.
