Keep the beamer and shop for insurance. IF you wanted a Lightning, you would NOT need convincing. My .02

I have a 2000 Lightning and a 2002 M3 on order. When the M3 comes in if I have to make a choice of which to keep the truck is gone. Love the truck, but love the M3 more. With any luck I will be able to keep both.

Silver Bolt:

Will you still "feel a 12.xx coming on" when you have the M3?

I also follow several of the BMW boards. There have been quite a few box stock M3's break into the 12's. Not as deep as the Lightnings are getting, but they are in the 12's stock.

Cool

since i own a Lightning and i have test driven an 01 M3, one thing comes to mind. the M3 costs 20K more, and the reason is, it's worth it. can't compare the two. one's the ultimate 2 -1/2 ton brute force pick-up truck, the other's the ultimate "get-away car" of all time.

as much as I hate to say this, I would rather have a Z-06 Vette than a M3 anyday. They sound like a God damn can opener! There was a guy at the track Friday night w/a '01 M3 and he was running the ***** out of it and the best he got was 13.52.My bone stock '01 Lightning went 13.78 .JMHO

Hee Hee. That is a kick *** little car that I would love to own. The only problem is you can get a Ferrari 360 Modena for about 20k more.

Captain a 360 Modena for 20k more???? Where? Tell how to do that and I will own it. Cheapest 360 I have seen is for sale by a buddy of mine. 1999 360 with 8k miles silver for $174k.

Can't really compare the performance of the L to the M3. Drag racing the L is fun but I am a road racer at heart. Not many cars can compete with the brute force of the L, and not many can compare to the precision of the M3.

I now about the mechanical problems with the M3. The big difference is BMW steps up and takes care of the problems. All things mechanical will have problems at some point. The test is how they are handled.

If the L ends up having to go I will have to get a beater farm truck for hauling. With any luck I will be able to keep both.

So far the official 12. is still coming (no 12sec time slip). Unofficially I am pretty certain that the L is now capable. Just hope the new suspension doesn't hurt the 60' times too bad.

I think the level of refinement between the L and the new M3 is a big difference too. Kinda like this order:

BMW - Ford - GM products - Hot Wheels

Here ya go, sort off
http://autos.yahoo.com/newcars/detai...ena/index.html

Starts off at $146 and goes up $169 depending on model. Now I don't know if any Ferrari Dealerships sell it for that, but it's the retail.

Capt. the M3 runs 48k-58k depending upon options. I was thinking you meant for another 20k I could have a Modena

Yes. I was refering to the Z8, which is basically a Z3/M3 except filled with alot of steriods. It's the same size as the M3, except the body looks a little different, and it sports a nice V8 engine. All that can be yours for only $125k, 20K cheaper then a base model Modena.

Steve/Doug - we need a drooling smilie
