Racing Stripes

How much would it cost to put two blue racing stripes down my truck... starting from the bottom of the front fog light setup, over the top, snug-lid included, and ending at the bottom of the bumpers...?
I am thinking it would look something like the silver Viper GTSs that have the smooth blue stripes...

I know there is a red L with yellow stripes on this board... forgot his name.

Cool

I had the stripes installed for $250 and have been very happy with them. My profile will give you an idea of how they will look.

Just a suggestion for those who are considering stripes- get them done in vinyl instead of painted on. This way they are not permanent, and there are tons of vinyl graphics places that can apply them for you and with the types of vinyl available, they can look just as good as paint.

I was always a sucker for stripes, flames, and the such. I think old school graphics can look great on new vehciles, of done correctly and tastefully. I also think what looks even better, is graphics that are themed after old 60s-70s cars. Another suggestion is to get some musclecar books, and check out all the different graphic styles used back then. I'm sure you could find different "style" of striping that will not only look good, but at the same time set your truck apart from other striped trucks. Just an idea

Thanks Sal. But, would the vinyl come off easy with heat, and wouldn't it be easy to steal?

How much do you think those cost?

Well, look at it this way, almost every musclecar in the 60s and 70s with graphics on it, was a decal, not paint. It will not be harmed by weather, and sure, you could peel it off to steal it if you try, but it's junk if you do. The local SVT dealer makes thier own dealer performance version Mustangs, and they have a girl who comes right to the dealer and installs the stripes. They look great. Not sure on the price, but you can bet it cheaper than having it painted on.

Cool

Sal is right on with the vinyl stripes. Mine are vinyl and can be removed or I can change colors any time I want. I live in Florida and the stripes are holding up well in the sun.

I disagree w/ the vinyl idea. People who go with vinyl tend to use the "Well, I can peel them off if I get tired of them, or if I decide to sell it". Sure you can peel them off, but it's gonna leave a "tan line" where the stripes were, and it'll look like @$$.

Another thing is the Raised texture of the vinyl decals. Everytime you wax it, a little bit of wax will get caught along the edge of the stripe, requiring Q-tips to remove.

One last thing...If you go w/ a dark color vinyl, you have to be extremely conscious of any Bird doo-do that hits it (even more than w/ your paint!) Bird crap mixed w/ moisture and sunlight will fade a dark decal QUICKLY.

If you're dying for Stripes and you just can't afford to have them painted....I guess the vinyl is the only way to go....Just remember....you get what you pay for. Just my .02.

Thumbs up

I've always been a fan of stripes. In my younger years I was the proud owner of two 68 Z28's. One red, one green. (Not your slap on the decal and I gotta Z28 setup, real z's. The green one had the MO block, late 67 early 68 run, the red one had the DZ block large journal 68-69, AND the Smoky Yunick Trans Am Cross Ram Dual Quad intake.) I am partial to the stripes of those early z's. Once I get my Cervini's Cowl hood, I think I'll try to duplicate them on the L. It'll be slightly unique and I think it'll look killer. Whatya think Flats??
