Another IRS thread (FL guys read to)
This is a thread going over on NLOC
Theres a place in florida that produces IRS units for the F-150's. It bolts on where the leaf springs would bolt on. I emailed the company with some questons no response yet. Since the place is in Florida if any you FL guys live near them, it may be worth checking out. Heres their web site:

Guys I think I have an obsession with Lightning suspension. Can anyone recomend a 12 step group?

Burninout101 - is this enough flame for you

I agree and disagree with you.
First I agree an IRS would not handle the power of these trucks at the strip and heavy drag racing, or 1/4's that alot of us here are looking for.
I disagree, that I think an IRS would holp up for the stoplight to stoplight race, if it was well made, and the L not heavily modded (ie- mods that get you into the 12's)

Justen,
Congrats on the Cobra! I hope it is all you expected.
Capt-O,
Justen is right on the wheel hop issue. I can feel my 01 Cobra hop on hard 2nd gear hits. With the power the truck has, you would need some help with the hop. I haven't done any burnouts in the Cobra, but by what it does in second , I could only imagine the teeth in my head shaking out! But for handling....thats another story!

Road Rash - been there, still got lots to explore.
I just think these trucks have so much left in the handling department. They're great at handling but you can always improve greatness. Soon I will have Hotchkis springs and that will satisfy me some.
Fast - If the post was about the Internal Revenue Service you wouldn't see this
, you would see this

Doesn't the Z06, soon to have 405 HP have IRS?
Many High performance vehicle have IRS, no you may not be able to drag race as effectively, but IRS does work with high powered vehicles in many applications.

WillMall2 - it was the only flame pic I had
pvteye - I understand what they are saying, and what your saying. Cars like the Z06 and Cobra that have IRS and gobs of power, it works on. But also realize none of them have our weight or our torque. Thats the difference.
I think that a well built unit would be able to handle our stock power and maybe some more mods. But even under heavy drag racing with a stock L it may kill the IRS. However on the street it may be fine. We don't get as much traction on the street as we do at 1/4 tracks, or with street MT's, or with slicks.
Either way I would love to try an IRS, but $5k -$6k is out a little to much for me to experiment with.

Mark@LightningForce also sells an IRS setup. (About the same price, $5k).
He uses it for his land-speed racing. It is based off a ThunderbirdSC 8.75 rear.
I think he's out and about racing right now, but maybe when he gets back he can give us some feedback on his setup.
I auto-x my Lightning, and as soon as I get a 2nd vehicle (in case something happens at the track), I would like to move into road-racing my Lightning. I know 90% of you guys drag, but there are others who like to turn while doing 110.

I agree with Pawn, a small percentage of Lighting owners enjoy turning the wheel at high speeds, which is too bad. I'll be running a road course in two weeks with 2 other Lightning owners (possibly 3) and it has some good straight and several high voltage corners. The track length is 3 miles, has 15 turns with three straights: west straight - .6 miles, east straight - .4 miles, north straight - .7 miles.
If you average 72 mph on the course and don't have any mechanical failures, that totals 195 to 225 WOT throttle runs (65 to 75 laps) plus the fun of braking and cornering thru the rest of it. I'm not sure what kind of top speed we'll hit at the end of the main straight before braking. It'll be a good test of the brake and suspension mods I've done. One thing I do know: I'll have some interesting video.

BTW, why would someone spend 5k on IRS and considering drag racing?

Spike -your definately gonna have to post info you get. Hopefully by next week I will have the Hotchkis springs order, then the swaybars after that bill comes in. Thanks for all your advice.
Cap,
You're welcome. I hope you enjoy the suspension mods. Plus, if you take the L on a road course, you'll get hooked on it. It's good fun and a safe place to find your limits.
