A fool and his money

We all set aside some of our disposable income for things considered by some to be frivolous.

However, this chapped my **** yesterday. Went to my local Harley Stealer, I mean Dealer to inquire about the new Screamin Eagle Road King. MSRP is 24,995. Pricey but loaded for a m/c.

The order taker, I mean salesman told me that they have already presold 3 of the 4 they're getting for 34,995. Jeeesusss.

Some people never cease to amaze me.

Any of us could buy a standatd Road king, build the motor, chrome it out, put on a custom paint and still have way less than that in it.

Sorry, I just had to vent.

Harley, although their bikes are great, purposefully limits the number of bikes they make, knowing that there is a huge demand, all for the sake of not having too many and watering down the brand. I think there may be a financial motive there as well...

Yea, but for the xtra 10K, you get a little more of that harley "mystique". so you got that going for ya. one problem with the Road King, if you are going name something "Road King", at least give it enough power to get out of the way of some of it's "subjects". i think i'm spoiled rotton with hp,or something

Weak!

Any motorcycle that can't outrun a pickup truck (or a Viper, for that matter) should be dragged 'round back and euthanized.

Harley is applying Enzo Ferarri's philosophy of "always build one less than the demand". They still do that today. Look at the F50 and the number produced is one less than the said they would build.

Jman,
We're talking about dealer gouging and how far some consumers will take it up the .......

Some dealers are/were asking thousands above msrp for their L's
Some bought at that price.

I can relate. My local dealer wants $1800 down on a 2002 FXSTB due to arrive in October. I can get it for the fantastic price of $17895 plus tax and license. The sad part is I'm seriously considering it.

Funny thing is, for the most part HD's maintain a great resale value.

Great resale NOT counting the dealer addon, try to sell that 35K harley the day after you ride it out of the showroom.

The dealers will get what they can get as long as the RUBs still want to ride, one day the fad will wear thin, and a true motorcyclist will be back in the market.

I have had 2 Harley's, both bought used, both sold for more than I paid, but I will not pay today's asking prices.

I have a deposit for a 2002 Dyna Lowrider ( due in Sept. ) with laced wheels for the grand total of $15450.00. Had to go out of state to get it but saved $3000.00. Which is how much more my local dealer wanted. I went to MMI for Harley Davidson. So did the local shop manager. Wouldn't even give me a price break. But wanted me to work Saturdays for him. They can kiss my a$$.

Best price I've seen on used FXSTB is a $16000 with 6000 miles. Most of the used ones in my area go for $18000. I think the prices on Harleys should hold for quite a while. Like said earlier...if supply is kept low your alway going to have a premium price.

Dark Horse,

Normally that bike is about 17 or 18 thousand. They (HD) put a $5K paint job on it. Added the 95 cubic inch kit, loads of HD chrome parts and got it up to $25K.

The people paying $35K are the ones Barnum was talking about when he said "a sucker is born every day". Or soimething like that.

If you gotta ask the price, just maybe, you can't afford it!
