Talking Fast and the furious...

OK guys, I know I'm real late about seeing this movie but I'm glad I finally did...even though the lightning didn't see any action other than hauling parts!

Here's my question...I realize that the imports in this movie were on the EXTREME side of modified, but I wanted to ask those of you who have moderately modified your trucks (or have lightnings), how do you think you would compete against a moderately souped up import? I realize that our trucks are much heavier, and aren't made to race, but I was just curious...

I've always tried to tell myself that my truck doesn't need to go fast, it's made to haul dirt bikes, and if I have the need for speed I can just pull out my Yamaha R1, but just like you guys I want the best of both worlds!

Any imput would be greatly appriciated!

Chris

Only few can match up!!

I don't want to step on any ones toes but I do have a riced up Eclipse GST that runs mid to high 12's and have beaten many L's but in turn I have been beaten by an L a few times before.

What do I have Stage 3 turbo kit at 18-22psi turbo timer, full Greddy exhuast and Greddy Intake, upgraded fue rails and pumb modified fuel tank and all the weight I could take off taken off.

Its mainly about weight If my car was as heavy as the L then I would get "cooked" all day long.

If your car was the same weight as an L. It just wouldn't get wooped. It would get slaughtered. It does sound like you have a nice ride there. Worked on and fixed up a Talon AWD 2 years ago. Basically the same car. Totally fun to drive and to race in. Have potential for a quick 1/4.

Sorry to intrude guys, though I am a R/T owner, i have somethinto say about this. I pulled up to a 2001 L the other night and we raced of course, and he so very slowly pulled on, leep in mind i'm highly modified so thats why, the L still beat me, at 70 mph he was about 1 car ahead of me, about a mile down the road, I heard the turbo, a Talon awd T pulls up next to me, thinkin i was gonna take him, by the time i hit 35 mph, he was already2 cars ahead of me and quickly pulling..and he claims exaust and air intake, I dont believe that , but i know that you dont have to do much those damn cars to make them fast as chit!

Moderately modded lightning (chip, filter, pulley -- about $1,000) vs. a moderately modded import (about $1,000)? Well, it depends on which import. Assuming similar money spent, Supra Turbos will always be a close race, so can 300ZX Turbos and Mitsu 3000 VR-4s with good drivers. As for the remaining typical stateside imports (e.g. Civics, Accords, Preludes, Integras)...Lightning will kill them. I think Ls will also beat most DSMs too, again assuming "moderate" mods. The FWD imports have a hard time gaining traction once they get seriously modded, that's why the best performing imports tend to be either RWD or AWD.

That's a pretty vague comparison though. What's "moderate" for imports?

No flames please, I'm not interested in the "Yeah, but I spent $10,000 for my ricer and if I spent an extra $20,000 to equal the price of the L...blah, blah, blah" discussions.

Before my L I had a 98 Honda Prelude SH - very nice car, 5speed, handled awesome, put a cold air induction kit on it. There would be no way it could even compete with the L. It would take thousands of dollars ( prob 4K+) and probably a turbo plus alot of other stuff to be able to even come close - with a few grand the L's can beat almost anything street legal

the 2nd gayest movie I've ever seen...

...besides Battlefield Earth (John Travolta really must have been desperate...another coke binge maybe?).

The Fast & The Furious, 'eh?

This movie STUNK!

Come on...please, how could N.itrous O.xide S.ystems sponsor this movie and allow them to bad mouth their product so bad like they did? I mean that would give ANY newbie a cold shoulder towards using nitrous.

Case in point: "NOS...IT'S GONNA BLOW!!!"...they all run and the car explodes. Okay okay, maybe the bottle pressure blew, but NOT the damn nitrous...it's NON FLAMMABLE! And why did the car blow up in flames and not just disentegrate like that poor soul's Nissan Maxima on www.enhancedhealth.com (the Kershinbergers or whatever their name is)? Because it looked cooler!

Why didn't the truck drivers just slam on the brakes and run the f'ers off the road?

Did anyone catch the part where he slammed his 2000 Lightning into the curb at the parts store he worked for? Talk about messing up the front fascia!

That movie was so horrible.

Why didn't the truck drivers just slam on the brakes and run the f'ers off the road?
I know common sense. But it's a movie. At least that was not as bad as planes that have been sitting for thousands of years start up and fly perfectly w/ the fuel in them, aka Battlefield Earth.

Can't agree more. If the trucker was going to get vigilante he didn't need the gun. He was driving his best weapon. All fro the sake of a movie.

Yep, no doubt, but even in a movie a good director will make it "work", and not just throw some stupid scenario up there that doesn't make sense. It could have been a LOT better. They put too much emphasis on the "love" and the "theft" portions. Hell, all we wanted to see was some damn good racing w/ numerous cars (not just imports)...that would have attracted WAY more and kept it alive at the box office.

Re: Apples and Oranges

hey 98stxv8

your truck is very nice. You need some tires and wheels

Go with Toyo Proxes ST 305/50/20 or 325/50/20
the best performance tires for truck and suv.

Also go with KMCWheels. Vemon or the Bofa.

You also do the same package with 18's but I think your truck would look better with 20's
