Weird sound
I changed my plugs yesterday and after I started it and drove it around for a while, Brian K noticed a strange pinging sound coming from the passenger side on the engine. I hope it is not piston slap, but it is not that loud, it kinda sounds like an exhaust leak.
It is not inhibiting performance either. I am not sure what it is. I am going to make an appointment for it at the dealership, but I am expecting them to say I need a new engine instead of trying to find the problem. Also, would it be in my best interest to take off my mods?

I was told they can only physically tell . A tech had my truck plugged in and nothing came up as far as codes . And i only had my chip out for a few hours.i know they have a code that pops up when there is a forgein device on the truck .
I had my truck a the ford dealer two weeks ago, they had it hooked to the computer and never said a word about my chip being in. I asked the guy what he feels about chips. He said they will still warranty the trucks with chips. But all dealers are different.

codes
L strikes I notice that on my 01 as well. It sounds like a slight exhaust leak, but I haven't found one yet. I'll probably go with straight pipes and never hear it again.
About the dealership and chips sometimes when the NGS or WDS is hooked up it will flag a cont code, I can't remember the specific code. Ford has a special service message out on this and states to check for aftermarket chips, ect that would set this code. Most of the time I see it on the diesel trucks with chips, ect. To be safe I'd pull it out before having a driveability problem looked at to save from the hassle. Plus I don't know what would happen if someone tried to reflash the PCM with a chip in it. It might fry the chip, but I'm not positive on that.

Don't for get to unhook the battery for a few minutes to clear the PCM of any codes and hook up your your solenoid that the computer uses to hold out the blower if you've unplugged it. That will also show up if it's not cleared.
Thanks for the info guys, I haven't figured out what I am gonna do yet. I am going to VMP on the 28th and I am gonna get Jim(JDM) to look at it and tell me what he thinks I should do. I will take out the chip when I go, but I don't know if I should take out the 90mm meter, I don't want any code when I drive to the dealership.
