Spark Plugs from HELL!!!!!!

I decided that today would be the day that I put in my NGKs, little did I know I would be doing the job for 5 FREAKIN' HOURS!!!!!! Brian K helped me with most of the work, pointing me in the right direction and laughing at me when I said all of the seven dirty words at least a hundred times!! I would like to applaud the Ford engineers who designed thses plugs and punch him in the mouth . This had to be the biggest sh** fest I have ever been a part of! I must say that when the job was done I was very pleased with the quicker throttle response. For those who plan on doing this yourself----GET A TELESCOPIC 4 1/2 POUND CAPACITY MAGNET-----. Brian K and I had to go to sears to get one because SOMEONE(lol) dropped the 7mm bolt under the coil pack and when I pulled up the coil pack the bolt fell into the spark plug hole!!!!! All in all it was a good day, I got quicker throttle response and one hurtin' a$$ left hand!!!

SHORTY: Thanks for having me and Brian K over for the cookout, the chow was excellent and I wil see you on the 28th.

I changed mine last weekend so I know what kind of job it is. I still have a few battle scars healing on my right hand.

It only took me two hours, but I had all the right tools and didn't drop any bolts. That must have really sucked. How long did it take you to go to Sears, and then fish out the bolt?

I agree the telescopic magnetic pickup tool is a must.

Ya I agree with you I would like to puch the guy who designed these engines.

Well I am glad you are running good again, whick plugs did you get NGK's?

Congrats on the removal of the errant 7mm bolt! That could've been bad news. Your knuckles will heal soon, your growing new skin everyday.
4 1/2 hrs WOW!
Thanks to LTNBOLT, It only took me 1 1/2 hrs taking my time. I've since beat 1 hr.
A telescoping magnet is a must for those who have not changed plugs.

plugs

Just think you'll probably cut your time in half the next time you do them. I'm down to just a hair under an hour. Locking extensions really help along with swivels, but my hands still end up cut up.

I think we could f had it done in an hour or
two hours but there was a couple of set backs. After we went to sears and got the magnet, it only took us ten minutes to get everything back on and running.
DON C: I got the NGK TR-6s (4177)

You almost scared me away from doing mine. Anyway I did my NGK spark plugs today. About an hour and fifteen minutes for the drivers side and the passanger side only took about 20 minutes total. I think this job is made out to be harder than it is. All my factory plugs looked good except for the third one back on the passanger side, The tiny little electroed or what ever it is was gone on this plug, it still ran fine and all but it was not there.

Welcome to the club Lightning brothers. It's like a right of passage when you do your first plug change. You know you have arrived. LOL. 2_FAST4U your first experience sounds much like mine. I spent as much time tracking down tools as I did changing the plugs. That's why I posted the instructions on my site to help people with their tool list on the front end. I added the telescopic magnet to the list a few months ago after the second plug change. I'm sure there are a few more tools that would help but these are the basics that you can get by on. Now go beat on your chest. You deserve it. Tarzan yell is optional.

Well, I too have joined the club. Just finished the job and opened a Corona. Took me about three hours with all the right tools. All the old plugs looked good. The highlight of the install was when I slid down the fender and my wallys got snagged on the bumper stops for the hood. Had to take a break after that. I think I'm going to change my online name to "Stretch".
I can tell the difference. The low end purrs (idles) better. Goin for a test drive next.

Briank, Thanks for the telescoping magnet. Came in handy. I'll get it back to you this weekend at VMP.

Kyle, Thanks for the upgrades on the (GT3) Cobra R. Went racing this morning and smoked everyone. Bought the race tranny and other cool handling parts. Time to go to European circuit.

Shorty,

It sounds like you gave the Tarzan yell before you got finished.

Don't worry its not that bad once you get good at it.

I can whip out a change of the plugs in about 30 to 45 minutes now.

If you want to make it easier then that, take the EGR off and move those coolant hoses around in the back. I got lots of work room now.

$47 bucks at my local dealer; I don't feel the need to do anymore plug or oil changes in my life. I'll spend my time tearing apart other stuff....where's my JDM pulley, fan kit and I need to order the new hotchkis swaybars to go with the springs.

Congrats on the plug changes; I did it once just to say I did. I will probably eat my words when I do a nitrous kit this fall.
