Oil in intake hose, why?

I haven't been to this site in a few month's, but now I am back with a question that I need an answer to.
I was installing a cone filter on my MAF when I noticed that the intake tube was filled with oil.
What causes this? Is it bad or not to worry?
My truck only has 1600 miles. I have only seriousy taken it WOT only once. Am I breaking it in too easy?
Anything you could tell me about this would help.

I'm new too, but it seems to be caused by oil being sucked into the intake under deacceleration. A lot of guys have noticed this.

A 'possible cure' is installing an oil breather filter in place of the oil cap. But, if you do this, you will need a chip to compensate for 'extra air--lean condition. See LightningForce or JDM.

Btw, if you ask "am I breaking it in too easy", you probably are. I went to wot every day or so from 200 miles on up. But, it's your L; do as you see fit.

Good luck,

Dan

Lightninrod is exactly right, oil gets sucked up the intake on deacceleration and gets on the filter boot. A cure for this is the oil breather cap, and YES you do need to have a chip so you don't get soft codes on the PCM. I have had my cap for about a month now and I just checked it the other day and no oil to be found!!!

A few of us opted to remove the "straw" leading from the driver's side valve cover to the intake boot.

Not sure if this requires changing your chip. I think not but mentioned it anyway.

Total cost: $20 All parts available at Auto Zone.

**note** no cleaning of the throttle body was preformed prior to photo shoot.

I suspect the oil is being pulled into that rubber boot on acceleration, since on decel there is no way for vacuum to be there with the throttle blades closed. Also I think the oil is being helped up that tube by crankcase pressure build up(Blowby) while at WOT

Anyway some guys are claiming that running only 5 to 5 1/2 quarts of oil in the crankcase helps with oil control alot. I have always run 5 1/2 in mine (but for different reasons)
and have never had much oil up there.
