...parts guys. What a match! Bought a used 2000 L back at the end of July, truck had the bumper cover drilled for a tag frame. Now, I like a front tag as well as the next guy, but not on my L! Ordered a new cover from Ford, had it sprayed to match, then discovered it wouldn't fit! Put the old cover back on, talked with the dealer parts guys who determined that Ford "must have mis-labelled the part". Order new part, wait a week...

New part came in today, same as the OTHER new part that wouldn't work. Looked over the parts guy's shoulder while he looked up the part (again) and found the problem, so I'm sharing so others won't have to go through this as well.

Bumper covers for 1999-2000 L trucks carry an "updated" part number (1L3Z-17D957-BB), and require a "bumper repair kit" carried as part number 1L3Z-17E994-AA. Don't know what was in the kit, but it wasn't really expensive (less than $40). Bumper cover appears to match the '01 cover, which is different in the areas behind the fog lights. Cosmetically, from the front, they appear to be identical.

Maybe this will help if anyone smashes their front bumper cover.

 

How much was the new bumper and how much was it to get painted? Do you still have the old bumper cover? Is anything wrong with it other than the drill holes?

My dumbass dealer screwed my plate frame on my bumper when they prepped my Bolt.After gently persuading them,they cheerfully decided to repair the nose by filling the holes,sanding smooth and applying a fresh as a babys but new skin with the flexible additive in the paint........I'm much better now and have been using less medication.The judge says he might lift the restraining order too!
