Service Engine Light On 02 Lightning
Service Engine Light On 02 Lightning
Hello I've been coming to this website for some time now. I've created an account on here just to ask this question. I bought a wrecked 2002 lightning with 106K miles. It was missing the airbox/filter box. It still had the MAF sensor but it was loose in the engine. I bought a Volant cold air intake. I installed it with that same MAF sensor. At first I forgot disconnecting just the negative cable from the battery. But after the first service engine light came on I disconnected it for a while. But after a while the SE light always comes back. I took it to auto zone so they they can check it out. It came back with running lean on bank 1 and 2. The SE light returns 40-150 miles after I disconnect the battery. I would really appreciate any help. Thanks
Update: I took it to a mechanic so he can check everything out. And the problem is the MAF sensor. Thanks anyways.

What ever you do...Do NOT run the truck WOT! Lean conditions make for expensive repairs.
First I would do the simple stuff. Fuel Filter and possibly O2 Sensors. With that many miles if the fule filter was not changed, and/or not changed regularly, you could have clogged injectors; however, being that both banks are lean I would rule that out.
Next check fuel pressure, which is my best guess. Drop in FP leads to this condition frequently. So check you FP immediately as well.

It is a vacuum leak plain and simple. Most likely the tube at the bottom rear of the intake manifold which almost always requires the blower to be taken off. Check all the other lines while you are at it, they tend to crack and rot over time.
Don't waste money and time until you check this first. While the blower is off, a new fuel filter and new plugs would be in order.
Get yourself a good Air Fuel guage and a fuel pressure guage. the 2002's are not famous for the broken Y in the fuel tank but the guage will let you know when it goes south on you.
