A beginner with mods

I see a lot of the new '01 L's with the JL ram air. Does it help performance, if so, where do I need to go to get one?

I heard that ram air is pretty good for delivering air to the S/C over the naturally aspirated airbox. Are you going to keep the stock airbox? Oh, Johnny Lightning sells them: www.johnnylightningperf.com

I'm not real sure about keeping the stock airbox. I like the looks of the cones, but I don't like them being open in the engine compartment. Thanks for the website, I've been searching for it , for a while now.

Also thinking of adding a chip. I can get a hypertech chip for free, but I'm kinda of leaning towards the JDM '01 chip or the JL Diablo. The hypertech just doesn't put out the power.

I have never heard of anybody on this board or svt perf using hypertech. Its usually Superchips (JDM), Autologic(PSP), Diablosport(JL). I am the type of person if I see good results with a certain thing, I stick with it. I want to get a ram air for my L, but I want to see how fast I can go without it first. I am looking to break in the 12s with a pulley and et streets in conjunction with my other mods, so we will see.

Cool

Collin had a Hypertech chip. They used his 99L as there first test mule. I think he said he picked up a couple of tenths and no changes to the shifting. Not too impressive.

Ram Air

Litenin I just added the JL ram air kit. I had the stock air box modified before. I think the ram air kit added a little on top and through the midrange, but I haven't been back to the track yet for testing. It also seems to make the S/C scream a little louder which is pleasant to the ears. I'd like to go to the track on a cool day to see what the truck would do. JL I believe just came out with an updated diablo program for the 01's so next thing on my list is to give that file a try.

Silver 01 Lightning (13.20@105.9)
JL Diablo chip
PSP lower pulley

I agree with Bill, love the way the S/C screams now ! I'm sure there would be some gain with just the JL Ram Air, just don't know how much because I installed it and the Diablosport chip at the same time and believe me the both of them make a big difference !

Hypertech for free is still too much. Not worth the effort to install. Stick with the big 3 for tuners PSP http://www.powersurgeperformance.net or JDM http://www.svtperformance.com or Johnnylighning.
