Drag Strip Warning
Drag Strip Warning
Last Fri. nite I was running my L at Silver Dollar.
A few minutes after 9 pm, a friend came up to me while I was in line to make my last(of 18) pass. It had been dark for about 15 mins. by now. He was very upset, shaking, talking fast. He had just finished a pass in his Camaro. As he was approaching the 1/4 mile line in the rt. lane at just over a 100 mph, he sees another vehicle ahead and in or near the rt. side of his lane. He swerved to the left(thank God his opponent was way slower), not knowing if he had a clear lane. It was a near miss as the starter had apparently not checked to see if the track was clear. The stalled car did not have his lights on!
The strip is supposed to be the SAFE place to race. Yes, things can go wrong, blown tire, busted drive shaft, etc. but there is no excuse for this incident.
I know I'll be checking both lanes from now on before i hit the pedal.

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm going to try and speak to the owner//manager today. No, nothing was mentioned at the track except, I do remember the announcer saying "be sure to turn on your lights at dark so we can see you as you exit the track". I'll bet it was said after the incident--but that was all that was said.
I chose to buy/install a dr/shaft loop even though i don't have the torque(yet) for it to be a threat. i had a 6-point roll cage in my Z281LE that I 'road coursed' and never 'needed' it. (Of course, it also stiffened the chassis for better handling too.)
Don't let the bear eat you!!
