Start up problem
Every now and then my L will not start on the first or second turn of the key. I have no idea as to why this is happening. Does anyone else have this problem or does anyone know what could be causing this? Thanks in advance for any help.

With the windows down, turn your key to the run position, let it set, and listen for the fuel pumps to pressurize the system. 1-2 second bzzz, then start the truck.
if you don't hear the buzz, your fuel pump is dead or dying.
how many miles since changing the fuel filter?

I also have had the same problem since new. Mine did this before any mods and continues to even after the chip install. It was discussed about a year ago, but I was thinking of posting again to see if anyone has had theirs permanently fixed. The problem is the cam position sensor located on leading edge of drivers side cylinder head needs to be removed and cleaned. It has a wire with a quick disconnect that you must remove then use an 8mm socket to remove the bolt. This sensor then slides out for easy cleaning. Mine has never had any visible contaminants on it, but after the cleaning it solves the problem for about 1 month. Mine only has this problem in the summer when I shut it off for a short time and then try to restart it. Anyone with a permanent fix with a part number (can't cost much at all) would be greately appreciated. This is my only issure with my 99 L and I would rather not go to the dealer with my mods and have them blame it on them rather than the right fix.
I tried listening for the feul pumps and I heard them and then started the L. But it was still warm from the drive home and this usually happens when it has been sitting for a couple of hours or longer. I have 37,500 miles on my L and do not remember changing the fuel filter. When are you suppose to do that?

If I'm not mistaken and will be corrected if I am, change it every 20K if you don't use race gas.
If you use race gas, the interval decreases as it correlates on how often you use it. For example, you run race gas every weekend/T&T night, change it once a year. Just a guess as I've only run race gas once....really.
