Question Airbox or open Filter???

OK Guys which is better? I thought the open filter kits were the way to go and now suddenly everyone wants to keep their factory boxes and drill them, modify them, etc etc.
What's a guy to do? Which one runs better? Seen many opinions about this lately. Fast guys let's hear it...

Im a little leary of the open element myself.
I just replaced the stock element with a K&N.
Just the idea of that open element being exposed to all the debris, moisture, hot air, etc. bothers me. You'll probably get
L owners from both sides of this subject with varying opinions...
its your call! my .02.

Rob,

All I can is text it like I have been doing and see which you like better. All trucks are different and so are peoples opinions.

Jim, Given our current transaction, I would hope you would encourage the JDM Filter kit!!!

I have a modified air box with a scoop in the grill that feeds the bottom of the box. I run that when it is real hot out.

When it is cool, or when I go to the track I use the JDM filter.

Think its possible to run your stock '01 air box with the bottom part of the JL ram air kit? In other words, keep the lower part of the ramair from the bottom scoop up to the hole in the fender?

I run the stock air box during the hot Fla summer and an open filter during the cooler winter months. It only takes about 10 minutes to swap them.
