Porsche only had a hand in the engine design, not the whole bike. I'm kind of mixed on this. Harley does have to progress with technology or they will be out of business due to emissions etc. They won't be able to make the air cooled unit pass muster later on. I'd question full water cooling though. I think I'd have gone with a Hybrid design that is more oil cooling with a smaller rad. I also don't understand the need to go overhead cams on a big bore V twin. You want to build it for torque, low revs. You don't need overhead cams for low revs. Makes the motors too damn tall. If I want a performance V twin, I'll get the real thing, a Ducati. If I want a nice cruiser, I'll ride my Heritage. It does have better styling than the ricers. Just a big departure for HD.

Was at the dealer thursday 7-12-2001 and they had two Road Kings on display for sale. DID not buy cause to highly modified by dealer. Just leave them alone, let the customer modify if they want too. But gives the dealer reason to add $10,000 to the price (Profit) Anyways looks like now I have to fight with myself, do I want the classic looking or the NEW. Good looking bike, I LIKE.

Lightbulb

This bike has 115 horsepower. I estimate mid 10's - 11 on this baby.

I think the bike looks more like a Buell or Triumph, not any one of the crotch rockets from Honda, Yamaha, etc.

As popular as Harley is, I think they realized they were losing sales to people who preferred the sporty, updated look and didn't much care for the Sportster. (not that Sportster has a sporty, updated look but it's a smaller, more managable (looking) bike like the new one)

I like it. I wouldn't necessarily go out and buy one. I prefer a cruiser and my crotch rocket days are far behind me.

I am trying to warm up to it. I kinda like it. A bit BMWish to me.

The big Q is. How does it handle/sound?

My ride~1999 Road King Classic

Well, maybe Buell can make a really good sport bike now instead of just a sporty bike.

HD's / Cruisers are not really my style of bike, but with a little work, this might evolve into something that can take on a Concours or a ST2/ST4 for sport touring. (How big is the gas tank on that thing do you think? 2 gallons?)

Just my humble opinion,
Bruce.

This makes me sick, I can't beleive Harley is doing this. I don't mind the new styling but whats up with the 60deg. and liquid cooled, only 113hp, the TL1000 is a 90deg twin and it makes 135hp. Nothing in the world sounds like a 45deg. twin. I think Harley is shooting themselvs in the foot. Call me old fashion but the F**k is Harley-Davidson? Stick with what you do best. Just my $.02, sorry fellows I just had to vent.
