Talking My thoughts on PSP lower pulley install

I have to say because of what I had read on this board (three to five hour install times) I put off installing my lower pulley for weeks. Last night at 8:30 PM I moved the wife's Suburban out of the garage pulled the L in the middle and turned on the A/C. I jacked the L up, put jack stands under her, and gathered up my tools. Took the two nuts and one bolt off that hold the cage. Removed the dust cover on the trans. to install the bracket that holds to motor from turning. I have four 14mm wrenches and none have enough offset to work well on the t/c nuts, so I put my breaker bar on the front bolt and hit it with a large Ford wrench (Hammer for you Aggies) . The second hit it came loose and off the old pulley came. I installed the new pulley, put the new longer Gates belt on, and took the truck off the jack stands. I then put my jack, stands, and all tools back where they belong. I took the L on a test "rag" (that is what your mechanic does to your car after he works on it). Boy, seat-o-the pants meter says it feels good. I got back home from the short test, went in and it was 9:45 PM.
Now my bitch: how in the HELL could anyone take three to five hours to do this job? It is very easy, and I did not lose any skin off my hands! I guess I can change my plugs now. I have not done it because all I read about was what a ***** it is. Please don't take this wrong, but some of you should just pay someone to work on your trucks. If it takes you over 1 1/2 hours to do this job...you just aint got it!

Yes Ray, I learned it all from you. This was no brag...anyone with basic skills could do this. That is not a slam...some people are just good at some things and some at other things. I can't do anything but basic math, but I (and anyone else, even you Ray) have other skills!!!!!

Yes some people are smart and have to work for a living--Others are just USED CAR SALESMEN.

Thumbs up

That sounds about right. I took mine off to check the adaptor to dampner bolts(loose). Didn't loose any skin either.

Now go get them plugs, takes about the same amount of time.

Travis, the only reason for the A/C in the garage (30' x 30' with a very small bathroom and 14' x 30' upstairs) is because we (four of us) lived in it for seven months while we contracted the house build. But it comes in handy in Texas!

Cool

I certainly agree with that statement!
I might be mechanically inclined with a year or so's experience working in a bike garage, but when it comes to anything but a plug-in installation I am not inclined to let anyone other than my mechanic touch my truck. Same goes for my 2 BMWs. Not only do I not have the time or equipment to do these sorts of installs, I don't want to be responsible for unintentially or accidently causing a problem in my truck. That's my reason for leaving it to the guys that do it for a living. As they say I wouldn't leave my job to my mechanic and he won't leave his business to me.
