Hardwired G-Tech?
Hardwired G-Tech?
So right now I have two annoying coiled power cords dangling behind my rearview mirror...one for my G-Tech to tell me roughly how fast I'm going, and the other for my Valentine 1 to tell me how damn fast I better slow down! My buddy John893 hardwired his V-1 to his overhead console, and as soon as I can find where I put the stupid box I got mine in (that has all the stuff you need), he's going to (show me how to) do it (haha). Now, that gets rid of one annoying black dangly cord, but what about the other? Now I'll be the first to admit that I know very little when it comes to most things electrical, but I'd have to imagine that if it can be done with the V-1...it can be done with the G-Tech too. My unedjumakayted guess is that if I had the ***** to cut that tiny little cord that plugs into the powerpoint outlet, there would just be a hot power lead and a ground wire; does this seem right?
I know that there was a GP on G-Techs a while back, so there's gotta be a whole bunch of them floating around out there...and from some of the things I've seen you guys do over the last 9 months with things much more difficult, you're definitely a smart, daring, and creative bunch. So who's gonna step up to the plate and take a swing at this one? later...

MXracer: I hard-wired my escort 8500 to a wire behind the rt. kick panel. I think it was green/white stripe--I 3m'd tapped into the green wire--it runs into a connector on the floor. I know this is vague(I'm at work-can't look at it), but a multimeter will identify the/a correct wire. Then just locate a ground terminal/bolt and tap in.
"so you're saying there's a chance?!"- Dumb and Dumber
What I'm saying is that if I have the ***** enough to cut the cable to try this, do you think that what I'll find is simply going to be one power wire and a ground? I know the V-1 radar detector can be hardwired overhead, and I was figuring the same could somehow be done? Thanks...
While I don't own a G-Tech, I am pretty confident in the fact that it just uses a 12v positive connection and a ground... Yes, if you cut the wire, this is what you will find... Even if you had a problem hooking it up after you cut the wire, you could always splice the cord back together. Just in case, you might want to make sure there are markings on the cable so you know which way to splice it back together if you need to...
