JL Power Cooler

Does this only yield gains when it can be filled w/ ice at the strip, or can it also be used in daily driving? Does it make a difference on the street? If I need warranty work, is it difficult to remove before being serviced? Thanks...

I have watched my IC fluid temperature drop from 110 degrees down to 45 degrees within 45 minutes. I personally believe there is an improvement to be had from cooler IC temps.

Since my 11 sec L is a daily driven beast, I do sometimes keep just plain water in the cooler for everyday. Not sure if it helps that way...I never checked.
The cooler runs inline with your current set-up. However be prepared to relocate your battery to the bed or elsewhere with this Mod. Hope this helps

Cool

I have had good results with the JL powercooler at the track. I have never used mine on the street unless I forgot to drain it
I believe the power cooler is a must have for anyone that frequents the track and wants to maintain some degree of consistency

Spiro - Nice burnout

Thanks for the info...one more thing though. Does the power cooler actually replace the i/c resivoir or is it a suplemental ice box w/ a pump that can be turned on/off? No one's ever actually explained the details of this thing to me, and JL has pretty much no info on it at his site .

It's a seperate box that has about 25' of stainless tubing wrapped in it that the intercooler fluid runs through. Makes a big difference in power. I run mine on the street about half full of water. It helps transfer some of the intercooler heat to the water.

Thanks for the info. Does the "race" side of a chip need to be calibrated for this?

Question

Has any one had any problems relocating the battery? As far as starting problems and charging problems. I had problems in my car when I relocated the battery in the trunck. Especially at the track with a hot engine, the car would not turn over very fast.

Dont forget the mandatory kill switch when you relocate.

You mean my FRANKENSTEIN TERMINALS LOL...Much easier to jump the truck (if need be) from there, than opening open up my Summit Aluminum battery box.

You can order the relocation kit for your battery from Summitt inc.The entire kit was about $170.You put the battery in the bed of your truck. You'll probably need about 5 ' of extra cable if you locate the battery behind the back tires as it SHOULD be.The reason the truck turns over slower is because your drawing power from a source farther away than the regular battery location.Make sure you use 1 or 2 guage cable. The cost of the powercooler I think is about $350 or so,but it WORKS!!!!
Good lick, you'll like it.

this is an old trick , I used it in '69 on my GTO. We used a 5 lb. coffee can and copper line inserted in-line with the fuel line, packed the can with ice. It helped detonation and prevented vapor lock. Sure seemed to help the ET's. Damn I guess I am a little older than I remember.

I didn't have a problem relocating my battery in the bed. You just have to run the wires out of the way of heat, moving parts, etc. I ran mine next to the passenger side skirts. I put the kill switch in my tag where Spiro did. My box is fairly easy to open, since I have the Summit plastic box so I didn't mount external terminals. IMHO, I don't think I would bother with the under the bed. It's easier to mount it in the corner of the bed and it doesn't take much room and looks fine.
