Question got a new 2001 lightning, what mods??

Whats up fellow lightning owners...i just recently got my new 2001 L. I have about 2,500 bucks to spend, and I want to get my L as fast as possible with the ammout of funds i currently have. I also want to be safe, so no NOS or anything like that. Ive heard of adding upper and lower pulleys and what not, but i have no idea what the heck a pulley is....haha...so if anyone could help me out with some info/pictures/websites that tell me about what the pulley does and what to do to it to make it faster would be great...Also im probably going to get a chip and a K&N filter kit....but what else can i do with 2,500?? Imagine I just gave you that much money to spend on your new bone-stock L, what would you do? All your opinions would be great! Thanks a lot....

I would start with the infamous "chipenfilter" and then lower pulley (from what I read you do not want both upper and lower and the lower seems to be better regarding belt slippage)
Then I would do a bedrug and ******** x2000 lid.

That should put you around 2000-2200 and then I would probably hold the rest and think about what else I want.

I recently got my 2001 and have ordered a psp 4way chip, psp lower pulley, psp air filter kit, bassani exhaust, bedrug, and wet okole seat covers.

I currently have my seat covers for sale as my wife does not like them and so I have decided to sell and keep the peace at home.

I am not sure what more you could do. I do plan on ordering a lid for the bed soon.

That is my 2 cents, and if you would like to just give me the 2500 I can give you more input after the mods .

motox,
I would have to agree with pgio. Start with the chip and filter, they will give you the best bang for your buck besides maybe the lower pulley. I would go with a lower pulley due to it's easier installation and more surface area meaning less belt slippage. I would also get a bedrug and hard tonneau. You can check out the following website for help on what the pullies do and how to install one: www.powersurgeperformance.net Hope this helps.

By the way, what type of MX bike do you ride? I am dying for the 2002's to come out, I should have a 2002 YZ426 sitting in the garage by Thanksgiving! Take it easy.

Hey pgio , what type and color of covers do you have for sale and how much??? Gonna go see a upholstery shop on Thurs. to see about some custom covers, don't like the wet ones and the ones you get from calcover etc.. seem to be a little baggy to me

okay, first i'll answer your question...then you answer mine...

with $2500 (and a dirt bike) I would buy (roughly in order):

VALENTINE 1 RADAR DETECTOR (definitely buy this first for $400)
fog light mod (hey- its free)
bedLINER ($250)
bed Xtender ($200)
chip (~$300)
filter (~$100)
shift kit ($150)
keyless entry ($125)
lower blower pulley ($250)
window tint ($125)
JL Powercooler ($400)
electric fans ($ ?)
pillar pod w/ gauges ($200)
TOTAL = $2500

Now your turn to answer some questions...where are you from, where do you race, and what class are you in?

later...
