Stereo Problem....I think?

I posted this in the other audio section but figured I would give it a go here. I have a 2001 L and the Stereo seems to have reception problems with certain stations. what is occuring is almost like the volume dropping and then going back up. This is worse on some stations then others. My speed sensitive volume is set to 0 or off. Does anybody else have a problem like this. CDs seem fine. I really don't want an aftermarket head unit if I can avoid it.

Thanks
Chris

Wahoooo!!! I am not going crazy. I can't tell you how glad I am to hear that I am not the only person who has noticed this, especially since it isn't super obvious to pick out. I am however sorry you are having the same problem.

So what do you think? Crappy head unit in general or maybe just a bad one. I think I will see if I can get Ford to swap it out with another head unit and if that doesn't work then I guess it is off to the after market.

I know this might sound really stupid but I really am no fan of 99% of the aftermarket head units. I like what they can do but I hate the look. Generally too flashy. I really like a nice simple looking head unit. So with that in mind, do you think it would be possible to get a Toyota six disc in dash CD /Tape installed instead. Probably way too much money but just a thought. I really liked that stereo.

Thanks
again

cslinger - I agree with your "too flashy" thoughts. I went with this in mine

Talk to me about......

So what is the story on that Eclipse setup? Very very nice. I assume a single CD head unit and an indash changer? How much shoe horning did you have to do to fit that in there?

To be honest I think I am going to end up with one of the double DIN CD/Tape combos. I really don't need a changer and can always put one in at a later time. All I really need is a reasonably powerful unit say 18-20 watts RMS 40-50 peak or so with the capability to play both CDs and tapes.

I like the AIWA and Jenson units and the price isn't too bad. They are bright though? Lots of pretty colors to cause me to get into an accident. I could get used to is especially if they sound better than this Visteon piece of garbage.

Any suggestions on a CD/Tape in dash combo. I know I would have to either custom fit it myself or, more likely have somebody else do it for me.

Thanks for all the input.

Only very minor triming needed to get the Eclipse gear in the dash. The stock unit can be put back if I needed or wanted to. This is a single disk head unit and a 6 disk in-dash changer. I went with this HU because it didn't have all of the flashing/jumping around junk in the display. There is also security built in that requires a key CD to be used anytime the power is removed from the system. If I remember correctly Eclipse will replace the unit if the security is active and the unit gets stolen. Without knowing what CD you used as a key the theif won't be able to get it going so it's basicly worthless.

The part numbers are listed on my web site (in sig below) on the modifications page.
