Thumbs up First street race with a Cobra

I wasn't expecting a skermish, but I got one non the less.
I was minding my own business, just happy to be leaving work yesterday.
There's a traffic light enetering the freeway from our parking lot and I was the first vehicle in line.
What I didn't notice was that there was a black 98 Cobra in line right behind me.
Well the light turns green and I go, not overly fast at first, just up to about 80 or so.
I look in my mirror and see this Cobra staying with me and attempting to get in the next lane and pass me.
I switch off overdrive and hit it.

I don't think he expected this truck to leap into hyperspace, but that's what she did.
It was bu-buy snake-boy from that point on.

Thumbs up

To anyone who still thinks a L can't beat a Cobra, I had the pleasure of lining up with one at the Carlsbad dragstrip...

Me:
.942 RT
2.196 60'
5.956 330
9.014 1/8
80.29 1/8 MPH
13.911 1/4
100.67 1/4 MPH

Him:
.780 RT
2.310 60'
6.148 330
9.238 1/8
79.54 1/8 MPH
14.100 1/4
101.86 1/4 MPH

Not my best work by far, but good enough for the win - and with losing the hole shot! That was one of my sweetest victories so far. One of my other favorites was an MR2 that got the jump on me in a big way, only to have me pass him up before the 1/8. That was sweet because I looked over as I was passing him and he was looking right back at me, quite surprised.

-Ollie

Got me some time slips heah...

Fri. nite I ran against two different Cobras.

Run #6 was against a white one(don't know yr.)...he pulled out of it part of the way down the stip--later told me "he had too much wheel hop". My r/t was .769, 1/8 was 9.023 @ 81.43, and 1/4 was 13.869 @ 101.59.

Run #9 was against another white Cobra(yr.?)...he ran r/t of 1.022(hehe) against my .635, a 1/8 of 9.712 @ 75.90 against my 8.979 @ 82.07, and the 1/4 at 14.856 @ 95.67 against my 13.783 @ 102.36.

Btw, his 60 ft. was 2.550 to my 2.226

"Wipe that smile off your face marine!"

Guaranteed, this one had to be N/A.
I also drive a S/C'd Cobra, and while mine is not the normal blown Cobra, even a stock Vortech will put any 96+ Cobra at 400+ rwhp.
An L doesn't stand a chance on the top end against that, and I walked away from this guy with nothin but freeway in front of me

Yeah, I had the pleasure of beating a cobra at the track the other day.

Me:

R/T.....878
60'.....1.993
330....5.601
1/8.....8.708
MPH...82.44
1000..11.308
1/4.....13.524
MPH....101.71

Him:

R/T....1.166
60'....2.212
330...6.131
1/8....9.213
MPH...78.13
1000..11.932
1/4.....14.312

This guy had a confident look on his face before the race and I would have paid a million dollars to see it afterwards

Those were all terrible times for any cobra.I 've posted this before.I own a 98 n/a cobra and with just a K7N I managed a 13.2 quarter (forgot the mph) but to launch a twin cam off the line is tricky business. You either bog or light them up.If I were to go against an L , I would go from a 5mph roll and hit it.Its about the best way.At the track it took me over 4 runs to finnally get off a quick time.I ran a 13.98 once then a few mid 13's then clicked off my 13.23 and that was with a 1800 rpm launch feathering the clutch pretty much throughout all of 1st gear.Paul from Paul's High performance says that if your not launching at 7000 rpm's from a modified N/Asp cobra with slicks then you ain't in the race.Imagine taking off at that rpm!!His car BTW is a 12 or high 11 second cobra with a 4.33 geared modified moter.Stock bottom end though. In conclusiono, a98 or older cobra will take ya with the right snake charmer behiond the wheel. So if you beat one you deserve braggin rights or he needs to call Bob bondaurant.

Cobras are tricky to launch. There was a 99' Convertable (post recall) at LACR the other day. 14.20's were the best he could do. That IRS is a problem to drag race.

Hye_Bolt and Felonius, do you want to meet at Carlsbad and have an afternoon of racing. There are probably a fee L's up here in LA who would join us. The tracks that I've raced at up here LACR and Famosa won't allow very good times due to weather and altitude this time of year.

I'm sorry Dude, but I have to raise the B.S. flag on ya.
I have the dubious honer of owning both a Cobra(96)and an L.

I can speak from by own personal experience when I say that an N/A Cobra with just a K&N running a 13.2 is a very, very rare occurance.
Those cars are making 265 at the wheels (maybe), and without any mods the best they can go is high 13's. Were you running slicks? You had to be.

I think that even a stock L will better a stock Cobra any day, and a chipped and filtered L, well forget it!

My Snake didn't even start to show some muscle until I chipped it, and put on some exhaust, before that, it was pretty much a pig.
After someone slaps a blower on a Cobra though, the whole equation changes.

I can say from Having had a Cobra that driving ability makes a world of difference. When I first got it, I was running 13.50's. After having it for about 4 months, I was running 13.0's with no new mods, just learning how to drive. I think mid 13's are possible in a cobra with a good driver. With both vehicles stock, I think it should be a very close between a Cobra and a Lightning. But what do I know.

Hey seattle snake ..better lower that flag.Stock 98 cobras are easily putting 270h.p. and up on the dyno.Mine was dynoed at 288 with just a 10 inch conical filter and an X-pipe WITH cats.Unlimited performance in Boynton Bch.( here in S.Florida) Joe(owner) had it on his dynojet last september.Joe dynos cobras all week long and I haven't seen one 98 under 270 even with just a k/n panel filter.98 cobras have the most aggressive ECU of ANY cobra and a standard straight axle to boot.Paul's High Perf and Jerry Green have both agreed on this fact. Its all in MM&FF in about 3-4 issues throughout the year.If your up on cobras you know of this.I also own a 95 and 01 L.My 01 has edged out my cobra(barely)and it has a JDM chip and filter. But I have beat 2 of my buddies 99 L and once he got me(best out of 3) and that time it was out of the hole and I was climbing on him near the end.He had a superchip only and I was running just the filter and bored maf then.Don't get me wrong I love my L's and I really think they are an overall better vehicle both in perf. and ride.I'm just saying some of you underestimate svts "other " performance machine. Its a strange cat(or should I say reptile) Nuf-said.
