1999 L wheel stud breakage...

Talking to a 01L owner at the track last night--he said he was towing a boat/trailer recently and thought he had a blowout. When he checked, he found 3 rear wheel studs broken. Btw, Tallahassee Ford would not repair his L under warranty. They claimed it was because of something he had done?

Was having it repaired at Riverside Ford(Macon, Ga.) and decided he'd trade it in on a new black 01L.

I had broke 2 studs on the rear of my '99 when changing wheels. I was using a 4-way and just tightend them up. They both snapped. Unfortunitely, I learned the hard way to replace them, but I didn't pull the axles to do it. It was a pain in the A$$!

I forgot this when i posted my original post.

One of the L tuners had a front wheel stud break off while on a trip recently.

Just a heads-up for the smaller diameter wheel stud Ls.

I like the style of the 99 owner with the broken wheel studs. why fix it when you can just trade it in. Iam TRYING to figure out why I traded my 99 in now. Can't think of it BUT I got a good reason to trade the 01 for an 03

The biggest killer to lug nut studs is the impact wrench at some cheap tire changer that is set to 120+ psi. They will stretch the studs and they will break later. I have broken some off with a four way in my youth. Now I just tighten up with the four way and hit em with the torque wrench.

wheel nut torque?

What should the wheel nut torque be on the 2000 and 2001 Lightnings? I've been torqueing them to 75 ft pounds....I hope this is enough !

For 2000 and 2001 truck, wheel lug torque 150 lb/ft (14mm lugs). For 99's it's 100 lb/ft (12mm lugs).
