Unhappy 93 Lightning won't shift to 3rd.

Hey guys,

Under full throttle my Lightning won't shift to third.

If I shift it manually, it works about 75% of the time.

I have to completely let off to get it to automatically shift.
"the trans isn't slipping at all"

It seems like a dumb little sensor or something, but nobody can
figure it out.

Tranny fluid has about 20k miles on it, and truck has had a
regular shift kit in it for about 30k miles, no problems.

thanks,......

If I had to bet, I would guess that the Direct Clutch is leaking around the seal in the "044". Hate to be the bearer of bad news, if that's it it'll need to be rebuilt.

You don't need a rebuild
It's you solenoid pack in the tranny. It won't throw a code and shifts fine under "normal" driving. At WOT, when it won't shift, lift the throttle and it will go to OD, bypassing 3rd altogether. It happens when there is too much fluid on the top of the 3rd gear solenoid and it can activate because the fluid can't compress.
The solution...
A new solenoid pack. I think they run 150 from the dealer. Level 10 does sell a "modified" pack, but Pat wouldn't tell me what was done to it, and I'm not going to buy something with "mystery" mods on a factory part.
