Question 3..2...1 Launching the Lightning

Just a question. I took the L out to a deserted strip of road and did my first WOT launch and was pretty impressed. No power braking or slam shifting just a plain ole hammer down to the firewall launch. She just chirpped a couple of times and went ballistic. Went to about 85 MPH. My question is that I thought she would break tires a little more easily and violently. Is the rubber that good. I had very good traction and she certainly didn't seem slow. I do have a Rhino liner which probably adds a few hundred pounds, a full tank of gas and a passenger.

Just to qualify I was in no way dissappointed. Just wondering what other peoples launch experiences are like.

Thanks

F1's when new, will give pretty good traction. But also as the motor get more miles in it, the more it will loosen up and make more power. So when you get about 5,000 miles on her, you should be able to spin the tires at will.

My sister loved it! we all do !

BTW, a Rhino liner should add less than 50 lbs., unless they sprayed it about a foot thick.

Thumbs up

F1 tires on all 01 L's are of improved compound.I've spoken to Goodyear about this and they verified this.I first noticed this when i first dove my brothers 99 L and I could light up the tires from a stndstill with only 600 miles on them.My 01 with 2500 miles on the sneakers could get a about a 1 second sqweek out of them.Concerned I spoke to several other 01 owners and they claimed the same.I spoke to 2 local Goodyear distributers who in turn called the factory rep and he did say the tire compound was different this year.I am going to find out what markings (or dates) on the tire distinquishes the newer tires from the older stock so when it comes to ordering new ones, we get just that.
