Cool Lightning Mods

Hello, my neighbor has a Lightning, but he doesn't have a computer, and he asked me to find out some opinions on his first mods for his L. He wants a good exhaust system, and he is leaning towards Basani, but he wanted to know what everyone's opinion of it is before he does it. He also wondered what the best chip to put in was, he is leaning towards the Superchip. He also asked me, FIPK vs AirRaid, but he wanted to know if anyone knows anything about the Johnny Lightning induction system. Thanks in advance, y'all! His truck is a 2001 Silver L, and it does have the intercooler leak.

Try a JDM,PSP or JL chip and filter. $500 or less and takes .5-1 sec off in the 1/4

First of all get him on the net. This forum is invaluable for info.

Second, the exhaust mods will probably not net you much if anything in power, however I have ordered the bassani exhaust, because I like it and the sound. Some people get kind of rude on this subject and talk trash, however there are many with this exhaust and like it. Also a lot of people like the magnaflow mufflers and so they might be an alternative.

As for other mods, chipnfilter, lower pulley and spray.

I have on order for my 2001 a pulley, chip and filter and exhaust.

Any of the big three L tuners (PSP, JL, JDM) will probably have the best programs and the best stuff for L's as that is their speciality.

Tell him to get on here and learn how to spend his money!!

Also are you sure he has the leak, I have not heard of anyone with it on a 2001 and I was hoping that they had it fixed.

Thanks
Paul

i have an 01 too. went with Johnny Lightning's street chip, ramair(big filter), drive shaft loop(for safety), an a PSP lower s/c pulley.

i have been toying with getting a Bassani cat-back system. the headers and cats are 'controversial'.

What does his rear lights look like ?
And the wheels ?
How about the driveshaft ?

Did he buy it new ? He could have been sold a 2000 and was told it is a 2001...

If he is the 1st 2001 with a leaking intercooler, we want to hear everything about the mileage, use, mods.

Tell him to spend his money elsewhere. The factory exaust cannot be improved upon on the cheap. A Magnaflow muffler will do as much as most aftermarket exaust systems. Also the Johnny Lightning Stage 2 is sweet.

I too would pass on the exhaust to start with anyway. From what I've heard, several have gone back to stock systems. Tell him to get some air to that thing first. I went with JL Stage II Ram Air also and that filter is HUGE !!! That is the first 01 I've heard of also with a intercooler leak. Wonder if they really are fixed ???

Glad to read a post from S/W Virginia too!!---Jim
BTW make sure you let us know what year it actually is.

Cool

Hey, thanks y'all, his is a 2001, and his intercooler did leak, but we know now that it wasn't the same leak, he had a line to it loose or something, he took it back to the dealer and it has been fixed. Sorry to be so wrong there, hehe, my bad y'all. It is a 2001 Silver, #76, and he has had it for about three months and he has 6,200 miles on it, he has the factory bedliner, bedcover and bugshield, and his only mod so far have been vent visors. It is the fastest truck I have ever been in, and I can't wait to get one. Anyone that wants to buy a 'slightly used' `97 Lariat for $32,460, email me. Thanks again for the info, I'll pass it along, and I told him to get a computer because there's no way to learn more about the trucks or just talk about them than F150online, this site is better than eBay, but he won't listen to me.
O1 Black Bolt, watch the L there in Wytheville, State Police hq in your front yard!
