Question Power Steering Question?

I guess I will introduce myself to the forum. I am a new 2001 White Lightning owner. I have never been a Ford fan mostly because I have never liked the "feel" of their engines. Purely subjective on my part. That being said the Lightning is like nothing I have ever driven period end of story. I have driven Vettes, a couple of Porsches, trucks of every brand and nothing compares to the feeling of speed and power the Lightning is able to impart. It is not the fastest vehicle on the planet but the fact that it is 4500 lbs and as aerodynamic as a shoebox and still moves like a scalded ape simply impresses the hell out of me. Anyway enough talk about what everybody here already knows.

My question is this. Is it common to hear the power steering working. Kind of like an air conditioner sound or low hiss when turning the wheel especially at low speeds. Just curious really and I am not sure if I have just noticed it or it has always been there. I appreciate any responses you may have.

One more thing about the Lightning. The fit and finish is excellent. I am a formor Toyota Tundra owner, which as much as many people hate to hear is a spectacular personal use pickup truck, but the Lightning is almost up to par with the feel of the Tundra. I know there is a lot of brand loyalty here but I call it like I see it no matter the brand and so far I am extremely impressed with the Lightning.

Thanks again
Chris

Does it make this noise when the engine is not running while moving the steering wheel? My truck did. It was a worn out Pitman arm. 97 F-150 Flareside W/38,000. miles

I took mine in for it under warrenty and they replaced (get this) the power steering unit, the power steering gear box and the pitman arm and when they rolled it out it still makes the same sound while turning the wheel???. It is normal and it has no effect on performance.. Thank ford for all the new parts>>>

Wow thanks for all the fast replies. No it is only while the engine is running and it is not broken mechanical sound like a Pitman arm would make. It just sounds like a lot of power steering boost. I assume it is normal it is just a little louder than I am used to and wanted to make sure it is normal.

I hear told it is the hoses they use they are kind of corragated causing some bubbling in the system.
