High-Speed Fly-By In Cincinnati

Gang:

Took the almighty 'Bolt out Sunday for a little cruise with the wife around Cincy. Didn't manage to scare up any street racing action, but was of course able to open it us a few times. Sunny day, fairly light traffic, clean pavement, and a full tank of fuel. Life is good.

We cut back through downtown, hopped on I-471, then connected with I-275 for the cruise back to Milford. I was just rolling along at a fairly slow clip in the fast lane (75 MPH or so due to the heavy "police presence" over the holiday weekend). Simply minding my own business. Anyway, I rolled up over the little rise that leads to the long, straight, downhill run toward the Ohio River (you Cincy folks know the place), and a little lightbulb went off...

Sunny, clear weather. Passing lane open to the horizon. No law enforcement in sight. Wife reaches for the "boost handle", as she calls it (the one on the A-pillar, you slobs!)...

It went a little like this: ...rumble, rumble, rumble, "Wow! Clear road ahead!", rumble, rumble SKREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, 90, 100, 110, "Wow! These things pull pretty hard on a downhill run", SKREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, 120, 130...

I caught the first pack of minivan-and-Camry traffic right at the Kentucky side of the bridge. Blasted (and I do mean BLASTED) past them, one lane away, at around 130-135 MPH.

I believe the conversation went a-little-sumpin-like-this: "...well, Chet, little Zachary sure did well in today's pee-wee soccer game, didn't he? I told him, though, that it doesn't matter if you win or... What's that little silver speck back there? My oh my, it's sure moving rapidly! Actually, it sort of looks like a pickuhhhhh... SWEET JESUS!"

Or something like that. Anyway, we shot past a dozen or so stunned slugmobile pilots at double the posted speed, then slowed to a more reasonable velocity for the remainder of the ride home. Had I stayed in it for another mile or so, I'm certain I could have hit 150 MPH on that gentle downhill grade.

The wife's only comment regarding the whole incident was "I sure do hate it when you get on the brakes SO HARD after a run like that. Very annoying." Gotta love that girl.

Sir Silver,

You have permanently scared poor Zachary for which he will now be relegated to playing soccer to the confinds of the "Rolling Meadows" community playground.

Now, if you placard your vehicle with a soccer ball die-cut sticker, they may forgive you...
