Angry Another intercooler bites the dust...SVT's reply

Saw the intercooler finally developed the leak...down a few inches from the mark I made on the reservior when I got the truck. I am dreading the b.s. I will probably hear when I drop it off to get fixed.

Anyways, talked to Steve at SVT and he said the new parts are in production and should be ready soon but to take my truck into the dealer and that they will probably just disconnect the pump. Gotta love Ford!!!

You know, I'm probably in the minority on this, but SVT has been saying for 6+ months that the "fix" is coming "soon". I had my IC go bad back in Mar, and had my dealer order me a new IC and they replaced it. Everything took ~48hrs (to get the part AND have it installed). I trust my dealer and their service people...maybe its b/c I've gotten to know some of them personally.

Anyway, my point is that I only had to wait 2 days to get my truck running the way it should. Disconnecting the pump will mean you'll have to be careful getting into boost, especially in the heat of the summer. I would be leery of SVT's promises to get an IC.

You could end up driving around for a long time with the pump disconnected, and thus down on performance.

FWIW, replacing the IC is not a big deal. A good tech can do it with no problems, and incredibly little risk of screwing something else up.

Well...to elaborate on what SVT told me today....he said that they got done with designing the part (what part?? a new intercooler or just 1 thing they felt like fixing?) and that it was in production now....but that they had to wait for 50% completion so there would be enough available to send out. Sounded a little fishy........but I am an ex-99 Cobra owner so I tend to be a bit pessimistic about what SVT says.

I spoke to SVT on the 22nd of last month, about something else, but I asked about the leak and was told the new intercooler design is complete and in production, and that Ford is putting together the TSB. I was told give it a month for everything to be ready.

I plan on calling back on July 23rd to find out. I guess I'm one of the few lucky '99 owners. No leak so far, but it could happen at anytime so I want to stay on top of situation with this "New and Improved" unit.

I agree on the svt they can not give you an answer. I have 2400 miles on mine and I am waiting for the intercooler. Even through mine is not leaking yet. I just want it fixed before hand.
