Summary of lower blower pulley installation

Hopefully, my installation isn't typical. It took just a shade under 5 hours. Even if I did another one right now with all the tools ready and aware of all of the steps, I don't see it being done within an hour. It's probably just me, though.

If any of you guys are getting ready to do this install, make sure you have a 8mm hex for bolting the new pulley to the balancer, that was a trip to Pep Boys for me.

I wasn't too keen on busting the nub off the motor to allow the tensioner to swing further, so I used the new Gates belt that I had picked up earlier in the week (part no. K080670) from O'Reiley.

The motor lock tool that PSP provides with the pulley was pretty slick. At first I didn't understand why I needed to get into the bell housing, but it became clear.

All in all, it went OK. It took alot longer than I had hoped, though. Plus, I had to borrow into next week's alotment of cusswords, cause I used all of this weeks in the first hour...

Glad to hear that you got it on. Did you take it out after and was there a big difference?

I have my pulley on order and here it will be about 3-4 weeks, anyway what difference did you note after the install. How does the seat-o-the-pants-meter read.

When you say hex do you mean an allen wrench, I don't mean to sound stupid, but I have had people say hex and really it was a torx head or some other type. I have a large inventory of tools and I just want to be ready.

Glad to hear everything went ok even if it took longer.

I did mine a week ago and it kicks ars..made at least 2 more lbs of boost. I would have gone to the track but it rained. It took me about 3.5 hours. I swapped the 3 Hex bolts for header bolts since I didnt have the right tool. It was not fun to do but it was well worth it. Boost is very responsive when you just lightly hit the pedal. I had seen the pics of the boost gauge needle way over in the black on the stock gauge and really was skeptical but sure enough its way past maxed ,not that its accurate, but looks badass..if you dont have one you need it!!!This is a must do mod!

Thanks again Sal/Spiro

Oh yeah, the results! Duh!

I used to be able to climb the vac - 0 in the boost gauge pretty easily and slowly, now there's no hesitation to above 0. Plus, it'll peg the needle over 10 lbs in no time! Low end feels way stronger.

Noel - I've been known to cruise over the most vital info in posts before - LOL!

i'M CONFUSED. not unusual, but the hex tool was included in my pulley order.

my install would have taken only an hour and a half if i had been able to break loose the 'old' pulley myself--i couldn't. i wasted an hour getting(at sears) a longer breaker bar---finally had to give up and call a neighbor who is bigger and stronger--he broke it loose on the second grunt! i used the longer belt too.

really was an easy, straight-forward install with good instructions from psp. i saw a 2lb. rise in boost and it helped me to a 13.477@102.54 fri. night.

Not the pulley hex tool, the allen key for the three retaining bolts. I used my 18" Craftsman breaker bar to get the pulley off, came loose in the first pull. The instructions mentioned that you might need a screwdriver to get the adapter off - mine came of with a light pull bare-handed. All in all, the parts came off and went on rather fluidly, but I spent more time putting the new pulley on than taking the old one off. The tight fit between the face of the pulley and the fan blade really made it a bugger.
