Thumbs down Help !!!

OK, the motor is torn down again. The valve guides are "oval-ed" again.
This is the second time. They are oval in the 90 degree angle to the
cam lobes. That is, the front to back of the motor. How can that be?

Oil pours into the front of the supercharger even with a racing catch can
installed and running both valve cover breather hoses to the top of the can,
the outlet back to the boot, and the oil back into the pan.

We have gauged everything on the thing, Cam, Block, Heads, etc.
All seem to be OK.

Any ideas, guys?

We are pretty much stumped.

Thanks in Advance,

Cliff

PS...Romeo heads, Stage 3 Comp Cam, Manley pistons, Manley rods, LTH

Cliff I could not start to imagine how you are oval-ing out the valve guides, but as for the oil I can try to help you.

The driver side cam cover pcv tube should go to the inlet elbow.

The rear lower connection to the I/C maifold should be plugged.

Install your catch can (Hopefully a steelwool filled or coalecsing sp* style) between the passenger side valve cover and the passenger side of the upper intake manifold.

That should control 99.9% of the oil entering the motor.

Again, valve guides, I dunno, maybe too little seat pressure, or poor lubrication, but again that is just grabbing at straws.

Ian, you're saying the "T" where the PCV valve on the passenger side that goes towards the back gets plugged? That would leave the setup as above the same except for that. Both valve covers to the catch can (Professional Race Grade) and the output from the catch can "clean air" to the boot and the OIL line at the bottom back to the oil pan. Sound right?

Yes, plug the T going to the rear of the lower manifold, and of course plug the manifold.

Now as for the valve cover PCV tubes, they should not both go into the catch can, the driver side tube should go to the intake boot like normal, and only the passenger side needs to go through the catch can.

More importantly, what is inside of your catch can? If there is not some sort of filtering/condensing media, then the catch can is about as useful as pet rock. Also if the catch can is designed to drain back into the motor, is there a check valve on the drain line to ensure PCV fluids are not being pulled through the drain in reverse?

Photos would also really help Cliff, could you post some up for me?

Lol just playing with you Cliff. Congrats on the times.

No Jeff, got out of this field totally. I do miss it sometimes though, it was mostly the experiences with people that made it rewarding. I'm a CTO (IT field) for a Hedge Fund in NYC right now. Still have the Lightning but it sits. The speed bug has not left me though. The busa is getting Turbo chared as we spoke Got an 03 Copper. Hope everyone is doing well. I want to get to JDM day this year.

OK, quick update ...

The smoking was because the grommet in the nvalve cover broke, the piece fell into the valva train, floated to the return gallery and promply clogged it up. The whole thing filled with oil and the S/C just sucked it in.

$0.50 part too.

Don't tell me I don't have weird luck.

Hopefully the week-end of racing at Bluegrass Motorsports the 18th of Sept will sort out the rest. Two days of instruction for $350 ... And you get a ride in Christine at speed!!

Come on down ...

Found the ovaled Valve guide source also ... CompCams screwed up the grind ... no ramp ... valves were being just hammered up and down, click clack
