Engine computer harness

Im dropping a 2001 L engine and trans into a 2000 extended cab 4.6 F150. I have the EFI harness and trans harness for the L engine. First question that I have is do I need to get a engine bay harness for the 2001 engine? Second if I do need one will a 2000 L engine wiring harness work? Any info will help thanks.

if you are using the 4r100 transmission then YES you will need the ECM to run the 4r100

the harnesses should interchange but I am not 100%

You will need to run your stock ECM. And have it tuned to run the L motor.
The Lightning ecm will not operate your transmission.

oh, forgot to say that it is the complete motor/tranny setup. will i still need to run the stock ecm? i had talked to a guy and he said that there were some big changes in the computers after 2000 and he wasn't sure if i would need to add extra components to control everything.
thanks for the info

If your going with the L tranny too,,,you will have to run the L computer.
So,,whatever tranny you run,,you need the ECM for that tranny.
You'll need the tranny wire-harness from the L also.
Now the wire going from the computer to the tranny harness is missing 3 wires witch control the auto shifts.(If you can get the dash harness,(I think it's called) you might need it also) What we did was run the 3 wires separately so we didn't have to find a dash harness and mess with putting it in.

I ran my truck on the stock computer for a long time with the L motor. But when I went with the L tranny,I had to swap computers to operate the L tranny.

You may also run into a problem with the PATS system. But you can turn if off in your tune or have it reprogrammed at the dealer.

Thanks for all the help. The intercooler system that the l motor is coming with is damaged so i was planning on replacing it. I was wondering which i should buy and if it will bolt up with all the stock bracketing.

You must be talking about the heat exchanger and maybe the water pump for the intercooler system?
JPL and LFP have some nice heat exchangers but there expensive. Most of them come with the brackets.
Or you could get the stock heat-exchanger new or look for a used one on the Lightning and Harley sites.
