Is Coil pack bad. Coil pack ?

OK guys my Lighting has 80,000 miles on it. I was driving home last night and the truck started driving crappy. I started it today and it was smoking threw the exhaust almost like a head gasket. But I had raw fuel coming out of the tail pipes.

I pulled the plugs and the passenger bank plugs were in bad shape. The #1 plug was soaked with fuel and, the 2nd had the smell of fuel but was not wet. 3rd looked ok and, 4th was almost normal looking. Drivers bank all looked new.

Now my ? is are one of the coil packs shot? The truck did throw a code this morning when I started it up. But I don't have a scanner to check it. I have to see if one of my friends has on I can borrow.

At 80k on the odometer I would suggest that you ohm out the coils, all of them, to see if any of them are bad and if they check out good go ahead and get yourself a new set of coil boots, those are almost always the culprit of misfires. Get yourself a new set of plugs (TR6) and make sure you dont have any vacumm leaks when you put it back together. Check that code when you can, post up what it is and I will see if I can help you out.

I advised the OP to ohm out his coils and if they all check out good to atleast put a new set of boots on them as they are often the cause of misfires. Several reasons are behind the boots failing. Heat will eventually soften them up allowing for the spark to arc from the spring rope to the head, and then there is always the moisture that can and will find its way down to the end of the boot making it brittle even after cleaning up the moisture.

From my experience the stock coils themselves rarely fail. I'd say about 1 out of every 8 trucks I get here for misfires needs a coil, most others need boots and new plugs.

OK guys I changed out the plugs and put new coil packs in. But the truck sounds like it has an exhaust leak now. It sounds like it is coming from the drivers side towards the back. Is there a hose or line that I might have missed when putting it back together.
