New motor with 60 miles wont start!!!!
I am asking on behalf of my brother in law he just finished rebuilding his lightening motor and ran it for about 60 miles and it just cut off at a stoplight and it will not start , this was his first engine rebuild ever so I am hoping some of you guys can help him out he said there is oil in the throttle body also there is some in the blower ( factory eaton) all the plugs are black he said the 60 miles it did run it seemed to detonate in his words (spark knock a little )he said he filled it up with 93 octane and it still did it then it just stopped running he has fuel and fire so any opinions will be helpful ,stock rebuild stock cams and .030 pistons and he bought the truck and it had a superchip in it I told him that was the main problem but I wasnt sure, he burnt a piston in it was the reason for the rebuild please help

sounds like it has comp. it turns over but wont start it has never been tuned at all he bought it from a 18 yr old who put a blower pulley throttle body and a superchip and basanni exh i told him when he bought it to have it tuned he has yet to now he burnt a piston , he rebuilt it stock as stone just had to bore it to clean it up.
Does it have a aftermarket chip pluged into the computer now...?
If so disconnect the battery, remove the chip and LEAVE IT OUT, reconect the battery and see if it runs..
Those chips are nothing but trouble, if they come loose while it's running, they can fry the computer or worse yet come loose at WOT and cause serious engine damage...
Get a Diablo Predator Flash tuner if you want to tune it...Otherwise, the factory SVT stock tune is very good in the 01-04 models and SAFE.......

Removing the chip will return the truck to stock tune. If it will run without the chip then the problem is obviously the chip. If it has a pulley change, then a tune would be necessary but it could be driven temporarily as long as he stayed out of boost.
The chip is not the cause of the oil problem. This is a common problem and several vendors offer a solution to the problem

well he did a compression check on just one of the cylinders and it only has 35 lbs on it and no matter what it will not start do you think something with the timing?? also he removed the superchip and still nothing any suggestions on what to check next?????
If it pushed the valve cover gaskets out, that usually means high pressure in the crankcase not being relieved. Usually thats done though the PCV system if it still has one on it. Oil in the throttle body is a common occurrence, but I'd be surprised there would be a lot of it there at only 60 miles - unless there is a lot of pressure in the crankcase and it's not being relieved by the PCV system or valve cover breathers. If it's not being relieved that way, heavy oil vapor is probaly coming though that plastic tube on the drivers side valve cover to the rubber intake tube and ending up in front of the throttle body.
The chip has nothing to do with the oil problem. Usually taking the chip out restores the truck to it's stock tune, and unless something else is "broken" or it's a really highly modified engine, I'd expect it to start up. If it has proper fuel pressure and enough spark it should at least start up. I would check and make sure there are no blown fuses.
Obviously there are many reasons it won't start, but 35 lbs compression is not a good sign. I'd check the other cylinders. If they're all low, it may not start up. Then it may be time to have someone with more mechanical knowledge of these modular engines assist your brother in diagnosing.
