gas milage
wow if what y'all are saying is true then I am going to be getting alot better gas milage than what I am getting with my 97 4.6 which is currently at 8-9 mpg in the city and maybe the same or slightly worse on the freeway
I wouldn't get too excited. Your truck is a 4x4 and is heavier than a 2 door Lightning. You may get better mileage by a couple mpg, if you baby it, but in reality, with your new found power, how you gonna keep your foot out of it?
For all the cost and headaches involved in changing to the Lightning engine, why not just upgrade to a standard 5.4, more pulling power and torque than 4.6 and if babied, decent mileage.

I dont want to just get a regular 5.4 because I have always wanted a supercharger and if I just got a regular 5.4 I would have to rebuild it with forged parts to do so and also If I get the lightning I would always have the option of getting rid of the s\c and changing to a turbo charger later

A roots-blown supercharged engine with a bypass is just a normally aspirated engine until you go into boost. You can drive it all day and not go into boost -- theoretically, that is; I am in boost every time ASAP.

You can put a supercharger on a stock 5.4....... just can't boost too much, IIRC thecompression ratio is higher than a Lightning.
Hey, I always say do whatever makes you happy........... it appears your question on mpg is just a cover to go faster because with the setups you are thinking about...... mpg is an after thought More Power = More Gas
If you ain't boosting, you might as well put the engine on a trophy rack.

Gas milage...

My daily commute's about 10 miles round trip, up and over 2 hills with no freeway. I average 14-15 mpg. Add freeway driving in there and average MPG goes up a bit. The best I've seen in my stock (stock muffler, stock paper filter) truck was high 18's on the highway with the AC on during the summer. Haven't had a chance for winter driving yet.
+1 ,,,my truck is heavier then a Lightning but I get about 5-6 MPG.And I get there FAST..
