I am assuming there is. They come from the aftermarket as adjustable for different size trucks.

I know they're available. My question is do any L owners use it?
I have one on my Supercrew and for me it is one handy accessory.

I put one on my '01; love it. It is the same issue as supplied to standard F150 trucks. Your dealer can (or you can) drill the holes to accomodate; they won't pre drill Lightnings as they do on standard F150's. There is a template that comes with the extender from Ford which is very easy to use and accurate.

I've found the extender easy to use, and easy to take off if you want to haul long pieces.

I had one on my 2000 Lariat "regular" bed or styleside...or whatever you want to call it. SInce I'm a cheap bastard and didn't feel like laying down another $250 or whatever it was, I just cut down the middle three aluminum bars from the "regular bed" full size truck model (they only had two truck sizes then, now there are more I believe) to get it to fit the narrower flareside bed, but now it works great. I use it probably atleast 3 times per week whenever I need to throw my bike in the back to go practicing or to a race, and it even came in handy last night at the strip when I flipped my tailgate down and was able to have my sandbag ON the tailgate wayyyy back. I also have a bedliner. BTW, you can buy special F150 only brackets that mount beneath the "hitch pin" the tailgate closes/latches to, so that you don't have to drill holes for their generic mounts; they're cheap too. I forget what the actual price was, but John893 just got a good deal on one at Pep Boys. Hope this helps, later...

I know for a fact that you can (or could before) buy special brackets for under $20 that do not require any drilling whatsoever to mount the bed extender. I used to work at a bike shop, so I bought all my stuff through Parts Unlimited (a large motorcycle/ watercraft/ atv distributor). I know that at that time, the bed extender was made by a company called Amp Research, but it is possibe I suppose that since there is a much bigger market now for them with all the freaky short short bed trucks Ford and others make, that they may have sold the manufacturing/ distribution rights to someone else an no longer make the brackets. But if you're in the market for one, I'd do a quick search at least to see if you can still find them, because I'm not exactly too fond of the idea of drilling holes into my truck unless absolutely necessary. later...
