Question Possible connection problem with flip chip?

I tried to install my flip chip yesterday and I pulled out the CM and took it apart. I cleaned the connections good and installed the chip and put the computer back in (negative battery cable disconnected). I went to start my L and all the gauges went to the right and the engine would just turn over (no detonation). I removed the CM three or four times and cleaned the connections for the CM and the chip and it does the same thing. I am just wondering if anyone else has seen this problem and if it is a connection problem. I am going to have someone look at it tomorrow who has done these chip installs several times and we will see if it is my connection cleaning skills or the chip. The connections for the computer module are so clean that you can see yourself in them, and the only other conclusion I can come to is that there are tiny pieces of silicon in the chip connections. Any thoughts would most gratefull.

Kyle,
Try taking out the computer again and remove the covers. Hold the board at different angles so you can see every possible angle for that silcon stuff left on the contacts. A few weeks ago at VMP Greg(he was there Saturday only)experienced a problem: every time he would install his chip the truck would go slower than stock by around a tenth. We took his computer out, disassembled it and that silcon stuff was still on the contacts which you could only see a different angles not straight on. We cleaned the contacts good and he gained .6 BTW - he told me before we took it out that he was afraid he had ruined his computer by cleaning it too good by rubbing through the contacts.
Good luck!!

Try just installing the PCM without the clip holding it in place. The ridge on the PCM holding plate (cage) may be pushing the chip away from its contacts.

In my opinion, the PCM cage should be removed and have the edge flattened where the chip rests against it. It's a b!tch to do, but you'll never have an install issue again.

I've had the exact thing happen to me twice. When I turned the key on, all the gauges went far right--talk about a SCARE! I immediately turned the key off and disconnected the battery (-) once again. After about 10 minutes, I reconnected the battery, started the truck and everything has worked fine since then. I did'nt deinstall/reinstall the computer between battery connections. You might give it a try .

All,

Your gauges will all peg when you clear the PCM and first turn key on.

Next time turn key on let gauges settle back where they are suppose to be, push lump in throat back down into your chest and then start truck

Check for the silicon inside your module. I had a similar problem with mine.

Talking

You may have seen it already but I took some pictures of the process when I cleaned the Computer
http://www.svtlightnings.com/svt/chip/chip.htm

It is a lot easier if you pull the box apart.

I bet there is still coating on the contacts
