My problems so far:

1) CD Player has jammed several times, can't get cartridge to eject, usually after a few days it will start working again.

2) Both Fog Lights cracked (shattered really from the heat)

3) Paint problems from the factory

1) Service engine soon light kept coming on infrequestly for no apparent reason. Had the sensor replaced and have had no problems since.
2) Clunk in the front when turn the wheel sharply. I think this is normal with all Ls though.
3) I noticed that my fog lights have been cracked in several places. According to this forum it is usually caused by using the foglights in the rain. I haven't ever done that. I rarely use the fog lights and I don't think I've ever had them on for extended periods of time (longer than 15-20 minutes). I also have no chips anywhere along the front of my vehicle so go figure.

Only 2 problems at 2000 miles.

First, when the wheel is turned to either lock position it makes an anoying noise, I think it sounds a little like a clunk and snap into place.

Grease the steering stops.

And another thing, has anyone noticed that these vehicles get very hot. I let my truck sit for like and hour and it was still hotter then my moms explorer which sat for the same amount of time. And when I drive around at night with the windows down, I have a nice cool breeze on my upper body, but my legs and feet feel like the heater is blowing on them.
</font>
The heat may be due in part to Ford's HVAC system: hot engine coolant circulates through the under-dash heater core all the time. When any Ford sits for a while after having been driven, the heater core heats the whole HVAC box. The downside of this design is that when the the vehicle is next driven, the first air that comes out of the vents is hot regardless of the temperature setting, because the whole air box is hot. The upside is immediate response to the temperature control.

In GM's HVAC system, coolant flow through the heater core is controlled by a valve on the engine-compartment-side of the firewall, and that valve is operated by the dashboard temperature control. The upside: if the heater is off when a GM car is parked, the air box will get no hotter than the rest of the car's interior. The downside: slower response to the temperature control.

In the Ford system, the heater temperature **** controls air blending doors that determine how much cool air (directly from outside or from the AC evaporator) is mixed with how much heated air (from the heater core).

AA_Expert,

My service engine light came on the third day I had that thing. I took it in to have it fixed, and as soon as I drove away from the dealer it came on again. That was the day before yesterday and today the L is back in there again...hope they fix it this time!

thulsadoom:

Same problem here. I had mine about a week and my service engine soon light came on. When I took it to the dealer it went off and seemed to come back on the next day. They said they couldn't troubleshoot it unless the light was on. The next time...about 2 weeks later... it came on and I immediately took it to the dealer and they found nothing wrong with the truck. They replaced the sensor that afternoon and I haven't had the problem for the last two months.

thanks big red truck: if i understand your post, i don't need to turn the 'heat' control up to circulate the coolant thru the heater core. i've done this to non-fords in the past to try and keep rust from forming in the heater core and then leading to leaks.

If your passenger window is rolling up and/or down very slowly (especially at the end of the roll) then your window motor may be dying. I had the same problem on my T/A, dealer replaced it under warranty, worked like a top after that.

That make a few of us for it. I have taken the door apart and can't find anything restrictive yet. So it could possibly be a bad motor like Martyr suggested, but on a few windows of 01' models (buckdropper yours is a 97' so theres a little more chance of your that with yours being older), and it slows down about halfway down not towards the bottom. One guy I know is going to have the dealer check out, I don't want them touching this vehicle anymore then they have to though.
