Post attn: Those w/ thunderform enlcosure

I called MTX and would like someone who owns the box to back up what they told me,

The box volume is 1.8cu ft that is shared between both subs, not.9 each, correct?

And they told me maximum recommended mounting depth of a sub is 5 6/8", don't know whay he didn't say 5 3/4", correct?

Also what is the box made of?

Thanks

1.8 cubic feet/2 drivers = .9cubic feet/driver all day long.

I had a similar experience talking to the MTX staff. The person I spoke with was pretty much worthless as far as his knowledge on MTX products. He really counldn't tell me anything that I wanted to know... Sad part is, I will probably still end up buying the Thunderform enclosure...

1.8 cu ft shared space box made of thick plastic composite. Very sturdy, and doesn't buzz or rattle. I don't know what the mounting depth is, mine came loaded with 2 MTX 6000s, which have a 5 2/16" mounting depth.

Cool

Hey Pete... I ordered as you reccomended, two pairs of the TS-A6865's. I also located the harness to plug directly into the HU and I was also lucky enuff to locate the harness that goes between the HU and changer. So all in all, if it doesn't rain this weekend, I SHOULD have a 2001 Lightning sound system in my 75 LTD!

How about this, the subs that I have to install are 5 3/8's depth, so say would a 5 1/2" sub fit is more my question.

Fast - let me know how it goes.

I'm not sure if the mounting depth is as clear on the thunderforms as it would be in a square box. Since they angle back, the size and shape of the magnet is just as important as the actual depth of the speaker. As I recall, there was a good 3/4" BEHIND the 6000s. You would have to compare the magnets and the mounting depth to get a real estimate. If all else fails you could use a gasket in front to gain another 23/184".

Loco - Thanks, like I said the subs are 5 3/8's, they do have huge magnets though.

I think I'm just gonna have my audio guys make me a box, it'll be cheaper and a definate fit. Though won't look as nice, or factory type fit.
