Just got a 2001 Lightning, looking for a better exhaust sound? which is the best cat back system? Borla? I dont't really want to weld a silencer in, as I change my trucks quite frequently and I like to take the exhaust off again, also I live in England, big bore pipe and clamps are hard to come by, anything I ship into the country costs me double the US price by the time it arrives.Could I just cut the silencer open and take out the sound deadening and weld it back up again, or will this cause problems with back pressure etc.

 

Dont waste the money for a system that will yield you no gains in ET...especially at DOUBLE the price.
If you have a local muffler shop, have them cut the muffler off and replace with straight pipes. After you tired of that sound, simply reinstall the stock muffler if you choose to do so. Hope this helps
