Question Air Filter Quandry...

Hoping to avoid the potential flames that go along with a topic like this but here goes...

I am looking at purchasing an air filter kit for my 2001 and am considering the JDM kit, PSP kit and the JL Ram Air kit. For those people who have one of these kits can you tell me what made you choose the one you did? I am looking for information along the lines of ease of install, quality of the kit, amount of boost increase if any, hp gained (if anyone has gone to the dyno after a filter kit) or lower ET's and similar information. All three of the kits look to be of good quality and all three vendors have returned my call and taken the time to answer my questions but I'm still looking for maximum "bang for the buck."

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Dan

I had gone through the same quandry last week and finally ended up going the psp route.

Why, because I felt most comfortable with these guys and I felt they were the most honest.

On other forums I had seen the others bickering back and forth and thought that was childish.

Also, when asked Sal said all three make good kits and he did not try to bash the others.

In my opinion, all three are good kits and probably make about the same improvements in power. I would go with who you feel the most comfortable. I don't think any one is that much better than the other.

The other option is to do an airbox mod to the stock airbox. I felt like doing the open filter route.

my 2 cents

Struck in AZ,
Welcome to the world of Lightnings.
I've got a 00 and I started with the PSP filter and chip, then purchased the JDM 90 MAF and big mouth filter. Don't know what PSP's new mounting configuration is on the 01 model, but if you like to meet sometime, I'd be happy to show both setups to you. I currently have removed my chip and filter and am completely stock in this blistering weather. I have had knocking problems with either chip so not currently running either till I get that resolved.
Tell you what, if you think you might be interested, I'd trade your stock airbox straight across for a JDM 90mm big mouth filter assembly (used it for less than a week).
Feel free to email me, or discuss on the board. peteb3@home.com

Look forward to meeting you and hooking up at the track sometime.

Hey Dan,
Welcome! I went to UofA and have been to Cave Creek! Beautiful town. I had a post awhile back, maybe two weeks or so and the subject was "No Boost increase after JLram air install". Do a search with my screen name and click on that topic, and read all the responses. Since you want the most bang for your buck,......read that post and the replies, then make up your mind.

Well put it this way, there all going to make about the same improvement as the next one, but look at it this way.

Just from my own personal experience with both PSP and JDM. PSP is much easier to work with and to talk to. Sal and spiro are two of the coolest guys you'll ever meet. especially when they put on those sunglasses. Sprio's pretty cute you know, HAHAHAH just messing with you spiro!

but seriously, any kits going to do about the same, but think of who your going to buy the most parts from in the future an establish a good relationship with them.

I would go with the PSP!

I think all the filter kits are about the same. I have a JDM filter on mine and it works great. I have seen Johnny Lightnings, and the PSP kits and they look great too.

I just orderd my first thing from PSP today, had to fax in the order, but got e-mail conformation when I got home. I couldn't reach them by phone all day, he must have been to busy to pick up the phone. Or maybee there was something wrong with his phone.

I had a PSP chip + filter in my 2000 lightning, and it worked great. I recently traded it in for a 2001 lighting, and the first thing I did was order a 4-way chip, filter, pulley, drive shaft loop, etc.. from PSP. The reason their phone is sometimes busy is because they are very busy helping people like me who don't know crap about cars. I was on the phone with Spiro for over 40 minutes on Monday, and he was a great help. Sometimes you have to call several times to get through, however, it is well worth the wait. I don't know of too many other vendors that are willing to provide that kind of service. Also, their products kick a**!!! I am a PSP customer for life!!!!
