Cool New guy here!!! I just got my new toy yesterday... Pics inside....

I just picked up a beautiful Bright Red 2001 Lightning Truck last night and I can honestly say that this truck is a super fun machine. I got sick and tired driving to work in my "hooptie" 1988 Mercury Tracer four banger with no A/C. This truck is a super great value for the money.

I will be asking some question in the near future with regards to mods and other items related to the truck. Nice site guys !!! I'm glad I found it.

The truck is bone stock for now but I'm looking to get the bed coated or maybe getting some sort of protection for it. Any suggestions??? Also, how do I find the build date on the truck? I know the general build month is in the doorjamb, but how do you find the exact build day?

Thumbs up

Good choice of color: looks like you picked the fastest color!!!
I also picked-up my red 2001L last Saturday and drove and drove and drove... put about 200 miles over the weekend. Got several thumbs up already.

I would recommend you consider BEDRUG for the bed... I believe it is about $310 delivered!

Rookie question for you: is your boost needle sitting flat during normal driving conditions? Mine stays at the bottom (below 0) until I step on the gas and the engine roars...

Sweet ride!!

I gotta move down south. I want a "L" but can't see having an extra truck payment for 12 months when I'd only drive the truck for MAYBE 6 where I live.

Good luck and have fun with it dude!

Look on your driver's side valve cover. The build date will be right there in plain view. Report back to us!

At the end of the production run(usually Sept) you can call 1-800-FORDSVT with your VIN and they will tell when and what # you are or you can wait around until Jan or Feb and you'll get a certificate of authenticity that also has the #'s on it. Otherwise, there is no way to know when or what # you are.

Cool

Congrats on the truck purchase! I've had mine for 6 weeks now, and I have 3,200 miles on it. It's my daily driver. I don't buy vehicles to let them sit! You're going to LOVE it.
I had a black spray-in bedliner put in mine, and it's great. It's definitely rugged, and you don't have to worry with putting anything back there. Since you have the soft tonneau cover like I do, you won't have to worry w/ it fading at all.
I do recommend a set of Wet Okole seat covers. The suede will wear fast, and I was always worried that I might get something on them. I put my Wet Okoles on last week, and the fit is awesome. They also look better than anything else out there!
Captainoblivious - You can either do appearance first and then performance, or you can just do it all at once like I did. I couldn't help it.

Man, you upgraded big time in the car dept. I went from a 1991 Nissan Maxima with 156,000 miles, so I feel your pain.
