Post On removing and relocating the antennae...

I searched the threads and found nothing...

Removing the antennae would help with the car cover and I just wondered if anyone had found a good place to hide it and how it was done.

Tanx...

I'm shaving mine off this winter when I have the car repainted. I was just going to mount the antenna in the passenger piller in the cab. I think that would be good enough. I very rarly listen to the radio anyway, cd's and Md's mostly.

RTKilla, what would you put in the pillar? Is there an off-the-shelf product?

I'm going to do this so check back with me and I'll tell what I came up with.

I've got to think that putting the antenna in the pillar is not a great idea. The stock antenna needs to be vertical, and backed by a ground plane. Putting it in the pillar would surround it by metal, effectively negating it's use by shielding it quite well from RF.

You would probably be better served with:

1) A piece of wire dangling from behind the radio, into the dash (make sure it's insulated!)

2) One of the ugly do-it-yourself stick on windshield antennas; they're highly directional (work best when you're pointed at the transmitter)

3) some kind of either commercial or modified cellular type glass mount antenna in the rear window.

4) Wear tin foil on your head.

I recall someone doing a power antennae. I remember it was a real pain for the person but he got it done.

I would like to do something also because I use a dust cover in the garage. I also think it would look better.

That is Bulldog who has the electric antennae. He does not post on this board anymore. I think you might find him on the SVT Performance board though.

I have seen his settup and it really looks and works nicely. He found a grommet that worked perfectly and an antennae off of a Buick, I think.
