Thumbs down Low Boost?

I have been watching my boost guage quite a bit and my 2001 L is bone stock at the moment, but I did order a psp filter and lower pulley earlier today.

My boost when I jump on the throttle hits 6 right away and them climbs a bit to between 7 and 8. I have seen it hit 8 once. Now I only have about 550 miles on her and have not buried the tack yet so maybe I am premature in worrying.

Do you think this is too low or is it fine?

Would altitude affect boost?

I live at about 6400 feet.

Also would having the air on affect the boost?

Thanks for any info and if you have suggestions please let me know.
Paul

The boost guage, and all the guages for that matter are not very accurate. Also the engine will loosen up in a few thousand miles. I think you are just fine, my guage shows about the same as yours, but Jim Datalogged my truck and I am making allmost 10 lbs.

Don't know much about altitude I live at sea level

Yea, my truck makes roughly 9 lbs, but after the shift from 1st to 2nd the needle gets pinned @ the 10lb mark. Not sure why this is, but i jut noticed it a little while ago.

It's the altitude, my friend, if anything.

Air density will affect boost a considerable amount.

I live in So Cal at about 400' above sea level. I can pull just over 10 lbs. boost on my stock gauge.

I have raced at LA County Raceway which is up in the high desert. The altitude there is 2,700' above sea level. The boost will drop to 8.5 pounds there on a 60 degree day. Factor in a 95 degree day, and it will drop another .5 lbs.

That's another reason why I should add a larger lower pulley. I need to gain some of the lost performance racing at the high altitude.
