Post low hanging exhaust?

I have seen on some pics the exhaust seems to be hanging low at the cut out. Anyway I have the same thing and I just picked mine up on saturday.

I looked at two L's at one dealer and three at another dealer and they all had the same problem the exhaust seems to be a little on the low side.

Of course I bought the only silver one any of them had and am very happy with it.

Do you think ford has done this to protect the ground effects from burning or melting or discoloring or something. Or is it just a screw up.

If you have any fixes let me know. I have not yet looked under the truck to see if I can adjust it, but I do not want to if the ground effects would melt or something.

Any ideas?
Paul

When I installed BABolt's polished stainless tips, the rear hangers were pull shorter to bring the tips up. They now sit about 3/4" below the cutout on the rearmost tip, and closer on the front tip. No melting so far, and I don't expect any.

I'd post a picture but Zing.com is down. (again!!)

How do you you pull the rear hanger up? I've tried (not very hard though!) to adjust it and couldn't quite figure it out. Anybody have step by step or an easy way to do (call it Adjusting Exhaust Pipes for Dummies!)

I have the Borla Cat-Back system(temporary till I get the Bassani full package) and they said it was OEM or better fit and it hangs too far down at the bottom and is so far over to the left that it is rubbing the paint of the ground effect. I talked with my mechanic and he says the only way he can take care of it is to heat the pipes up and bent them where they are supposed to be. I have enclosed a picture of my exhaust, so if you are thinking about getting the Borla system I would think twice.

I too wondered about that when I got my '99
I do believe that since the exaust is a side exit, that it was done intentionally to avoid melting or staining of the ground effects. There have been posts about discoloration of the pass. side rear wheel from exaust gasses so it makes sense to me that if the tips were pulled up, there would be some melting or staining on the ground effects. I will leave mine alone....just my opinion.

P.S. On vehicles that you see with rear exit and the pipes are tucked up close, I think you can get away with it BECAUSE the gasses go straight back

A torch applied to the last hanger until it is cherry red and then some muscle will shorten the hanger. The best way is to loosen all the the exhaust bolts, get everything where you want it and retighten. Not really hard to do.

Regarding melting, as long as you're not crazy about how tight you go, nothing will melt. Regarding staining, maybe some after time, but I doubt it. Your rims, if they are going to stain, will stain regardless of the tip position.

I've had the Borla cat back system in my 2000 for about a year. I hangs perfect and I haven't noticed any melting or discoloration of the paint. Although I might add that it must be pretty darn tough to center the pipes right in the middle of the space in the skirt. Just my 2 cents.
