Question What 1/4mile times is normal for a 2000

I just brought my 2000 Lightning to the track Friday night. Has 3000 miles. The temperature her in Oklahoma was 90 degrees. Humidity was 100 percent,(it just rained before my runs) with a 5-10 mph head wind. Anyway, I ran (3 times)@ 14.5 sec with 2.21 sixty foot times at 95 mph. What I was wonder; is this normal for my truck with these weather conditions? This is my first time to run this truck and the first time to post on this sight. I was disappointed with the time because several of my friends with there T/A's were ragging on my times. Also a 2001 Lightning was running consistant 14.6 at 95 to 96 miles per hours which is much slower then everything I have read. Please give me so input.

from what I can tell is that most of it was in your 60'. 2.21 is pretty bad i think. I have never ran mine so i'm not sure for sure, but I think most people on here get 1.8-1.9 60'. just my .02

This truck is stock with stock tires. I'm sure the 60 ft time would be much better with Nitto's or M/T on the Lighting. What I'm not happy with, is the 95 mph and 14.5 sec's. I know lower 60 ft times is directly related to lower 1/4 times. But a 2.21 60 ft time should not produce a 14.5 1/4 time?

Your 60' time is killing you and the weather conditions suck. Try leaving at an idle or just slightly about. Stay out of the water box. Just enough burn off to clean the tires. Just barely turn them over. Stage it and go. My 2000 stock did 13.82 but the weather was much better. Now it has done a 13.16 with a 1.94 60'. All on stock tires.

The weather you ran in was awful. Your 60 ft times were almost awful. Plus a headwind. It would be tough to find worse conditions. Together they can easily cost you 5 tenths.

Practice launches and go to track when weather is cooler and traction is better. You should be able to bust into the 13's with the right weather and launch.
Dont let the smack talk get to you, you will get your share of kills. Good Luck

My L is bone stock, and your times don't seem out of line for the conditions. I ran one 13.77 and one 13.85. But these were on crisp cool (60 degree) nights. On a 75 to 85 degree summer night I run usually between 14.0 and 14.1. Also, my best MPH was 99, but I usually run about 98 MPH.

Thanks for the chin up information. I know the street talk is wonderful about these trucks and that is why I bought it. I'm happy I did because it's a much stronger and smoother running truck then my f150 extended cab. I don't plan on racing the L or running at the track, but I did want to see what my L would do. I think maybe this fall when the weather is perfect I will try again.

Cliff,
Did any of the F-Body boys giving you a hard time post any runs in the same night, under those conditions? If they had've they'd have been really quiet about their times. I've seen .7 sec. difference in my 00 C5 6 speed from one week to another due to minor weather changes. The conditions you were in would have affected the F-Bodies badly as well. I've only made 2 passes with my 01 L, both when completely stock & less than 1K miles. The temp was in the low 60's w/fairly high humidity & both passes were in the 13.5 range. 1st run: 13.56, 2nd run: 13.50. As you develop your launch technique & get some good weather you'll get in the 13's soon enough.

First time I ever took my 00 L to the track (1250 feet altitude, 80+ degree weather and no head wind), made 3 passes:
2.287/14.478/96.22
2.251/14.428/95.92
2.193/14.356/95.88
2.182/14.466/95.02
These were bone stock with 250 miles on it.

Then this winter when it was about 60 degrees I ran these type of times:
2.106/13.884/99.331
2.131/13.952/99.053
2.078/13.824/99.79

Sounds like your times are right on the money considering your conditions. I don't even go to the track anymore until winter when its 50-60 degrees out. Don't be dissapointed in your times, the weather, the head wind and your launch are all factors in your not what you expected times.

Cool

Like all have said the performance of the L's are very much related to temp and humidity. The times you mentioned are very typical.

Do you know what the barometric pressure was?
Apparently, the pressure is key too. Some of the regular racers on the Board don't even bother to race unless the pressure is 30 or above.
