Question Bassani Exhaust Questions

I just picked up my '01 White Lightning and still breaking it in. I have read here that several of you have put in the Bassani exhaust and said it did not do any good; one of you said you wee going to remove it. My questions are:

1. Did you install the FULL Bassani system? Headers, X-pipe, hi-flo cats, etc. or just a cat back?

2. Did you pick up any MPG?

I put the full system on my '93 L and it worked VERY well!

I believe you can purchase the components seperately, but probably not cost effective if you will eventually buy everything. Good for sound, not much else. I think it sounds real deep and throaty...big block sound.

Awful lot of money for just sound. On a supercharged engine exhaust doesn't come Into play as much as a carbed engine, unless Its stoped up really bad.The cross over pipe or X pipe and a good muffler will give you the same results. Lawson

You know everybody complains about how much money the bassani kit costs, but look at what you get for $1700. stainless steel ceramic coated equal length headers, all stainless steel pipes and collars, stainless steel cats, and mufflers, stainless steel x pipe and chrome bad *** exhaust tips. Any exhaust that consist of that kind of quality parts is going to cost that much. sure it doesn't do to much for a bone stock L, but I'm sure that the bassani system does help out with guys like us that are pushing over 400 rear wheel hp, ans also the few of us that are spraying the trucks as well. I love the way to bassani sounds and I'm sure it does help out some. The only thing I would do different would be the long tube headers, cause it is a fact that the long tube headers do help out with the low end trq on these trucks.

Not Complaining, just think Its not a good first mod. After you go far enough to justify a new system It Is as good choice and a quality product.

I appreciated the feedback. Both Basanni systems I've put on fit well(no torch, hammers, Moto tools, etc. needed), but both were on push rod engines, and they helped a bunch.

I don't think Bassani has full length for the L.

Is the Bassani system CARB approved like the 5.0 and 5.8 ltr versions?

What about MPG? Does the Bassani do anything for the fuel efficiency side.., I know they are loud. On my '93 L the system gave me about 20% gain in fuel economy( fron 10 to 12)

I've got (or had) the bassani full system and to be honest I would not recommend it at all. After about a year of service both cats went to total *****. Causing my truck to run horrible. I recently had the cats adn mufflers yanked off. Guess what drivers side cat was hollow, repeat crystal clear nothing in it. The passenger side cat had a nice big brick of the catalyst wedged into the outlet end of the cat, effectively killing all flow. I replaced this with 2 new hi-flow cats and a 2 flowmaster 3 chamber mufflers. I noticed and immediate gain of 200+ horsepower and no bogging/bucking/backfiring/spitting/pucking/etc from my truck. I would really really consider doing something else with your 1700 bucks. If I were you go for a dyno tune chip (about 350), pro-m MAF, and for sound add a set of mufflers on the back in place of the factory set.

btw...when I had my bassani put on I gained about 8rwhp on the dyno. My chip gained about 30-35rwhp and the pro-m was worth another 29rwhp. In the end my 99L put out 378rwhp and 442rwtq and this was with a very early chip. I am sure with one of the newer burns more is to be had, but I'm happy for now.

good luck either way

Mike B.
